I spotted a couple Chevy trucks for sale in the classifieds only an hour or so from the house. I'm going to go check them out soon. It looks like they need some lower rust resto done. Anyone know where to find 31 and 33 chevy truck patch panels?

Chevys are not for the checkbook rodder. You hunt, you fab, you end up with something not seen every day. ( older V.W. door patch panel, inner and outer work, cheap from J.C.)

    Is that from experience?

I'm pretty comfortable skinning most of the cab, I worry about doing rockers since I've never done them before. I'd also rather have the correct (or good at least) inner portions, as making them from scratch isn't my strong suit. Are the dimensions pretty close to a ford?

I've got a 36 Chevy Standard (flatback) not much made for them. I used the V.W. door patches inner and outer. They are a little short length wise. They are 6-8 inches tall and the curve is about right. Rockers on the car are just a U channel and would be easy to fab, I would think it's the same on the truck. I suppose you could find some Ford stuff that would work but the J.C. stuff was real cheap. If I was looking for a frame I'd consider Ford also. The Chevy suspension (36) sucks.

If I get the truck, I'll build most of the chassis myself. I'll probably use ford axles and front frame rails, and whatever springs I can find. I kind of want to keep it a dually though.

I've got a couple of '31 Chevy trucks....one I drive and a cab that is still stock. There isn't much to the rockers. Here's pic of the stock rocker. It has a contour but it just mounts to wood so fabricating something is pretty easy. I just made mine straight on the purple truck and made the door fit close to it. The doors just overlap the body anyway so close enough worked for me.

If you need detailed pics or measurements of stock parts let me know. My extra cab isn't perfect but it's not bad.

We went and looked at the trucks today, and they are WAYYY overpriced so I doubt I'll be getting either one. They are all wood framed. Would be a simple job really. Time consuming I'm sure. I'm pretty bummed. They looked nicer in the pics.

  12. purple pickup, total shot in the dark here, but on your extra cab, would you have the bracket that holds the cowl vent open? looking for one for my truck.

My '31 Chevy trucks don't have cowl vents. Does yours?
