I got a chance to ditch work this AM and go over to Herington KS and see the Union Pacific Steam Train #844.

I know it's technically "off topic", but like all the other things ***ociated with times gone by, I really dig old machinery. And a kinetic display is always better than static! Just like I dig old architecture, WWII warbirds, and old cars and trucks, I really dig seeing just under a million pounds snort and whistle. ( I should have some video up later).

I also try to become a better photographer through seeing all the amazing photography here on the HAMB.

The 844 is on it's way to Wichita today, and will be there for display tomorrow. Then it is off the Oklahoma to celebrate that states Centennial.

    Thanks for looking.

I really dig those big *** old pullers, ever since I went to the Henry Ford museum and saw the ones there I had a much greater appreciation for the construction of these machines.

Awesome did you get any videos of it under steam? I would love to see it.

There's a couple of running steam here on the east coast but nothing that big.

For those of you think the 844 is BIG check out the Challenger and Big Boy.

  11. Nice going there Daddy!

I like holding hands, walking on the beach at sunset, puppy dogs and fluffy kittens.

Steam locomotives rank right up there.

At last a good thing about being old. We saw those things all the time. The SP ran through my town with the Mallot "Backwards engines. Put the cab on the front so the crew wouldn't be asphiated in the snow sheds going over Donner. Very cool to a young kid.

Those old things are *****in' That is another one of my interests. It would have been nice to see those in their heydays just doing their everyday jobs hauling freight. As for RichFox...lucky *******.

No kidding. If you ever get a chance, come to Green Bay, Wi...we've got the National Railway Museum, and there you can see a Union Pacific Big Boy in real life.
