Okay... I bitch only when I think it's necessary, and I give praise only when I think it's deserved; This, ladies and gentlemen, is how to write and take pictures for a classified ad... I don't know this HAMBer... I'm not trying to help him sell his car, but take a good look how this is done and friggin' TAKE NOTES!!!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=207620 I wish more could be so consensus. nice car by the way, good luck with the sale, and I mean that.
I can not believe how many people take pictures of their car parts, and cars in a dark garage ( Black cars show up real well there ) out side in the dark, or in the rain. How can any prospective buyer see what they want to buy that way??
That ad is so BEAUTIFUL it actually brought a tear to my eye... Welcome to my hell man. Give people a FREE forum to use, Let them post as much as they want, for free, with as many pics as they want, for free and what do they do? 49 for sale. Email me at imadipshit@aol.com for pics cuz I'm WAY to lazy to figure out how to post them. Nevermind the 5 or so stickies that explain, in impossible detail, how it's done. This is a very well done ad. Dude deserves a reward. Oh, yeah, for those dudes who post REALLy vague ads just so people keep your ad at the top asking the OBVIOUS things people will want to know,,,, we're on to you and we know where you live.....
Thanks to the Classified Editor's............you guys have had your work cut out for you for a while..........I still say go to the "Alliance member's only" to post ad's..........even if I am a slacker and short on pocket change to renew...I will in Oct. and start ordering parts again and saving LOTS of coin like last year. I don't mean to hi-jack your thread, but there seems to be about a million members that post in the "for sale/ wanted" section, but you never see them post an actual thread. The main reason that I started hanging out here was because there are like minded individuals here. NOT because I'm trying to peddle some of my SHIT!
That IS a good ad. I thought I wrote decent ads, nice job shiftonthefly! I gotta get back on ebay and update my nova ad to borrow some of your style. I also appreciate the hard work Rash and all of you put into our classifieds, I know it's not easy. If I can ever be of assistance, I'd certainly try.
B M sent ! dose the neigbors house come with it ? pictures of the wife please. dam im on the list now?
That is almost a perfect add. If he could only figure out how to get the car closer to me, THEN it would be perfect. Nice car also.
Looks about how I try to do an eBay auction, nice ad. I do less here because I figure folks here aren't clueless morons like 95% of the people on eBay... "will you sell me the grille from that solid, fixable car?" Also I figure the people really interested I can email pix to and save some bandwidth since it's a free listing.
Certainly a great ad, but. Rashy what's the take on using all that space for pics that could be emailed to potential buyers?
Well , I been sittin back on this one and Rashy and I have been passing the Kleenex box back and forth crying so hard. Damn a thing of beauty ain't it ! I'll answer your question for you....... Post the pics all you want - I wish more guys would.... Why - because every night - I delete minimum of a dozen + posted pic requests when I have over and over remind the rules we have in place about PM'ing or Emailing for Pics and not posting the request for pics. No matter how you descibe something for someone, everyone's terms of a little rust can vary by oh 90% or so and with pictures it helps confirm what is being descibed. Not always ,but helps a lot. So - post pics - we do limit a post to 5-6 pictures so use them ! To me, if I want to buy something , I want pics of body, interior, trunk, underside, engine - whatever I can get my eyes on because it helps SELL-SELL- SELL. So post pics like the Falcon seller did and I bet you sell your car quicker. As far as Rashy mentioning about these guys who post stuff with little information - as Rashy said like "For Sale 53 desoto - email me at Stickitinyourwazoo.com", we are to the point where I just delete it. If guys don't take the time to be courteus to you guys and sell something as they want to buy it themselves , why post for cripes sakes ? So as far as that Falcon ad- you betcha - first class ! Now if I can figure out how to get some of you guys to read the classified rules to make your ads simular or at least understand the rules, I might get more time to see the rest of the HAMB and contribute in other areas. Rashy - Kleenex ran out - pass the new box would ya ! Cob Classified Moderator
Incedentally, if pictures are remote hosted, instead of attached to a post, would I be correct to assume they don't use HAMB bandwidth that way? This ad with the nice pictures seems to have them remotely hosted. I've heard both ways, the guy who runs Fred's Stock Car forum seems to think he gets charged for the bandwidth even though I post pics for my dad that I put up on my own ISP account web space.
The other great thing about that ad is the car is presented in nice clean condition. As someone who has made a living out of buying and selling cars I can't believe some of you guys. Crappy photos of dirty half stripped projects in a garage that looks like a good old time junk yard. If you really want to sell it pull it out and give it a good wash, place stripped off parts clearly where they can be seen. For gods sake put a bit of effort in. If it looks like shit you are probably going to get shit offers. Also price it right......I hate these adds that start out at a trillion dollars not a cent less and then the price starts dropping big time. It makes you look like a fool. If you want a fair price maximise all the good points, clearly identify known faults, put as much info as possible in your ad and present a good clean car.
Yeah, post the pics. Honestly I am not sure if remotely hosted pics use more/less bandwidth than attached pics. They sure use less space on the drives... That's not the whole issue though... Do you guys want to look through a forum full of crappy ads crammed with pic requests or would you rather read an ad full of info and pics? I can tell you from my end the pics are a whole lot more interesting and every now and then I catch myslef learning something. And THAT is what started this place to begin with.
LMFAO!!!! Thank you I needed a laugh. Yes the ad is BEAUTIFULL, like maybe he actually wants to sell it?
I did as well laugh out loud at the "BM sent" haha. Ben is a good guy (thats his listing) and he is thorough in every listing.
Seriously, if that car was near me I would buy it and I don't want or need a falcon. The add sells that car. If I see an add for a "falcon $1800.00" I open the add. If then all I see is, little rust, great car, PM for pics. I am back out of that add and on to something else as quick as I can. I want to see pics. This may spark my interest in something I don't even need.
Im with Rashy, lots of photos help, especially for those of us living in diffrerent time zones. (12 - 16 hrs for us Aussies) If we could get all the ads as well written as this eBay one it would be perfect. It defines exactly whats for sale with detailed photos. Make sure you check out his responses to the questions asked. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Unfinished-Project-Paper-Aeroplane_W0QQitemZ270163443165QQihZ017QQcategoryZ32635QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Perfect Classified Add - makes me want to buy the car - good thing I don't have the $$ The nice thing about remote hosted pictures is that you can use a much larger and more detailed photo up. and like Rashy says - they don't take up any space on the drives.
i saw that ad for the falcon also... made me want it haha just a prime example of if you show everyone what they want to see theres no need to ask unless you want it... and is that ebay add for real... 3 bids? haha p.s. notice how many people have had to ask questions... print it out and frame it up, i dont post much and havent been here long so i dont deserve to get mad over bad ads, but it seems everytime i look at the for sales i get tired of see'n people break the rules "pm sent" or bumping the ad for a question that could have been done through the phone number/email/or even pm
I hate to break up the love-fest, but I'd like those Falcon pictures a lot better if the cameraman stood back far enough to fit the whole car in the frame. Most of the full car shots cut off the corners of the car. Otherwise very good. The classifieds should require at least one picture to be attatched before it can be posted. Who buys cars without pictures? And what's with the prices listed as "in ad"? I won't even click on those, might as well say "over priced" That is a good deal for a Falcon.
