    What's up guy's..
I need a gate for my truck, along with all the hardware needed to mount it.
I've been looking for a used one but have had no luck finding one in good shape.
So, i was wondering if any of you have bought a new one, and from where?
I don't want a piece of shit, thin sheet metal gate. I'd like one of quality..
So who would you recommend to purchase the gate and hardware from? Any personal experience?

    Thanks.

Mack Products on Moberly MO has been making new high quality early Ford and Chevy/GMC beds, tailgates, and hardware for at least 25 years now. Heck, they may even make Dodge gates now, I don't know.

classic parts (add a .com) good stuff My friend got a tail gate from em, its as original as they come, script is even proper, I just ordered all the rubber and misc hardware for my truck from em and there stuff is great (prices are darn good too)

As far as trying to find a used tail gate...heck I had one on here for some time....I couldnt give it away...it ended up being given to a local guy building a rat rod ford (wonder what he was going to do with the chevy script?)

FYI if you have a 54 they are taller than 47-53. In fact they are the same for all stepside trucks up through the 80's.

Yep, the 54 side tops go flat and taller and run all the way up into the 80s. The 54/55S1 sides have some features on the inner fender areas that aren't there later but dimensionally they are the same.

This may sounds strange, but do any one you have a measurement of the box side height of the 53 and earlier beds?
Before i go and dish out 200 bux on a gate, i should make sure the bed is an early one..I think it is, but a quick measure will confirm.
    Thanks.

to tell if you have an early or late box: the early box has angled tops, the later ones have flat tops(where the stake pockets are)
