Not a galaxie but im looking to drop my 64 mercury. It has tired coils in the front and blocks in the rear now but i want to put new coils in the front and ditch the blocks. I looking at about 3 to 3 1/2 inches in the front and about 4 inches in the back. what do you guys recommend, de-arching, shorter leafs? what have you guys done.
You could start here: http://www.eatonsprings.com/products.htm For the rear, (as I did on my '62 Galaxie) you could use 2" blocks, remove a leaf (smallest one), and add "helper" air bags. It is fairly economical. This has worked great on my car and it sits nice and low and rides great. If you use the air bags you don't even need a compressor. You can use an air chuck to fill them, or have a tank in the trunk that you fill occasionally. You'd need a gauge, switch, and solenoid to operate the bags with an onboard tank. I know you want to ditch the blocks, but there is nothing wrong with using them. Air shocks are another alternative to use with blocks. Hope this helps ya out a little..... Malcolm
I've thought of the bag method, the problem with the block is I have 3" blocks in it now and I want the back down another inch. but I already have an issue with the studs on my shocks bottoming out on the ground, when I make the repair I'm goin to have to cut the out.
Do not need to cut brand new springs, drive the car to the local spring shop and tell them where you want the car to sit and they will make the springs to your request. Just remember it will settle.
