Ok, pop's new project is coming home in the next week or two and I want to make sure it gets going on the right path. It's a '47 Series 61 Caddy, 2dr fastback. He already has a stock '52 Chevy Fleetline, and a '47 Pontiac 2dr fastback that he is streetrodding. I don't like the path the Pontiac is going down, but hey, it's not my car. The Caddy on the other hand, is in my sights for a future build so I want to try and "lead him" on the right path with the hope of someday buying it from him. Since it's a Caddy, and a rather rare one, I don't want anything that can't be changed back to stock. I want it low, and subtle... that's it. I'm looking for pics of any early to mid forties fastbacks that are along these lines. Let's see what you have.
Those fastback bodies were called Sedanettes in the 40s, GM had one for every division but Chevrolet(until the 49-52 years).
Yep, I believe they all did except ford... buick, olds, pontiac, caddy, and chevy. Pics of any "fastbacks" are welcome!!
what about Starbirds Caddy? http://public.fotki.com/Rikster/11_...toms/darryl_starbirds_to/starbirdcaddy01.html
Your dad's 61 will be like buford36's and Starbird's: slanted B pillars, same body as '41 Cad and Buick. The three that I put up are are 62s, I believe; straight B pillars, same body as '46-'48 Buick Roadmaster.
Yeah, the Series 62's are longer wheelbase, higher end models. The Series 61 is more like my father's '47 pontiac, although I believe the wheelbase on the caddy is longer by a few inches... but I could be wrong.
How many pics would you like?? I have a 1947 model 61 5 p***enger coupe as well. Cadillac called it 6107. mine is currently under construction. I feel the same about keeping as much stock as possible...To a point. The really expensive **** like the emblems.. NO WAY!!! Caddy daddy wants $350..00 for the center crest and another $ 175.00 for the "V". I'll fab my own thank you!!!!!!! $500.00 a PIECE for the rear side fender chrome!! I went with 96' impala SS front clip and rearend in mine. they come very close. The original 47 cad weighed 4200 lbs and the impala 4150. not bad... I unloaded the factory v-8 motor and trans. I will also be giving away the factory front suspension to a good home if anyone's interested. Going back in will be a 506 cad mill/ th400 out of a 76 deville. interior is courtesy of one smashed 93 eldo with black leather. the list goes on and on... I would like to see any pics you have too. --Rich
