I'm struggling... The cowl looks laminated... but if it runs, and it looks like it oughta... how'd they do the carbs and heads? (Mind boggled.)
probly a process called "graining" pain in the *** but the results can be stunning. i'd love to know how they got the **** to stay on aluminum heads after they get hot
I think upon further examination, we'll all see that the GMC huffer would not nestle down between the heads on a flathead. That same FAKE huffer probably covers up a 4-barrell AND a rear distributor which give spark and fuel to the small block chevy that those chrome AUTOZONE exhaust manifold covers bolt to. Still fascinating and intriging, though.
I think your onto something there the plug wires look like they route under the "heads" in that picture
now, would the REAL top coolant hose please stand up! fuel lines are actually coming from under the "heads" as well...intriguing...fascinating...ugly.
here is what I know having ridden in the car and know the owner (super nice guy). the car is completely made from Myrtle wood, for real 100% carved and varnished/cleared, no tricks no airbrushing. I has a 350, with carved flathead valve covers and blower covering a 4bbl. Hundreds of hours spent making the body to real 32 scale. Really to see it in person is unreal, the carbs and blower look insane...the valve covers are incredible.. grille is also a work of art. By the way it looked alot better with no fenders...horrible pic but you get the idea. This is at the Fresno Autorama. That was a fun road trip! we towed it down in my bosses trailer with the owner. It was a blast!
I'll add it's been around Portland a long time and get's driven alot. I've talked to him on several occasions. he say's he likes to add something new each year. if it's on Craigs list he must have a splinter car in the wings. I alway enjoy the craftmanship and details
sort of goes against the grain... not need to worry about Rust but Dry rot and termites wood be a worry.
That guy would come by my brothers house as we had a 32 roadster , storing for a friend. He had drawings and a big caliper. Measure and take notes. Said he was building one out of wood...LOL We just about **** when he drove the car over to show us...Funny thing.. It had a chrome shift knob. Ugly thing but the work is out of this world. Nice guy too......OLDBEET
wow...it really DOES look a lot better without fenders...amazing effort, but...but still funky looking...
well, its...umm.....i think.....ahh.....if only.....ummm...... i have to poo....[thanks larry for the line ]
He took the job on as a hobby and I think he did an incredible job...even on the engine cover-up. You can't judge something like this with the same critical eye you might use if someone was really trying to fool you...there are NO wooden flatheads. He just saw a way to expand his wood carving into an unexpected area...as if the body wasn't enough! Maybe his skills don't include the building of a REAL flathead so he went the crate engine route...but honoured the Flatty with his wood carving skills anyway. You just HAVE to give this guy credit for an amazing job.
Sometimes this place is like 50 judges at a Concours...instead of looking at the overall work (in this case every piece of it is hand-made--does that mean anything to anyone? Obviously not..)... HAMBers have to pick it apart...HAMBers have to add their worthless 15 cents to the thread..."If it ain't steel it ain't worth a ****.", "If it ain't a square body, you got nothing.," "If it ain't black, there's no sense working on it." Damn, give it a rest...if you ain't got anything nice to say, keep your mouth shut (or don't type your thots.) Look,'32's don't mean a thing to me, (as most of you prolly already know), but this one has some incredible work...how many hours does he have in this thing...AND, according to another HAMBer , he DRIVES it...could you do the same, with the same level of work...?? I sure as hell couldn't do that work...I appreciate what the man has done, give him his due. Rant over... R-
I believe this car was in Street Rodder about 10 years ago, in the Highboy configuration. ( can you imagine what that car weighs?) nice work
I'm not saying i dont like it...I'm just confused as to why...you imagine what that would have cost>>> im mean, even doin the work his self it was still spendy as hell, had to be....i cant begin to understand the process, i can do finish trim work on houses, takes me 3 boards to get one right...the work is unreal...however...i just dont get it ....i mean, imma farmer....i wouldn't build a 32 outta corn! but yes, the guys brilliant...but i just cant get my mind around the concept...althought, the blower would make for one *****in coffee table piece!
geeezz...too each his own...no big deal, but, just as some people need to back off a bit sometimes, some folks need to deal with criticisim too...really, thats the root of humor...should we have a dry, dull, witless world? the work involved is impressive...I couldn't do it, ( I wouldn't want to, either, 'cuz I don't like it, but, thats just my opinion) and really...who cares what my opinion is? or anyone elses on a friggin' message board...90 percent of whats here: is an opinion. You just gave yours about '32 Fords, didn't you?
