So yesterday afternoon, after a Burbank cop gave me a break and didn't haul me in to jail for spinning my tires(its a misdemeanor, which means you get booked-some anti-street racing ordinance just FWIW ), I realized maybe I owe something to the community to pay it back for all the BS I did that I luckily never got busted for when I was in my teens/twenties(street racing, burnouts, general mayhem :D)

So I was going down Laurel Canyon in the '51(Flying Monkey), and I see a motorcycle guy broken down, so I stop and ask him if he needs a lift. He was waiting on triple A but I was willing to help. I'm sure most of y'all do the same, I've had strangers help me when my junk has broken down, so I gotta return the favor whenever I can.

So I start thinking about a pic I saw in a little book I think about the Road Angels, and it was some hotrod pulled over and the driver helping some girl change her tire. I'm sure y'all know more than me, but the book said it was formed to combat negative stereotypes of hotrodders, etc etc.

It was a good idea then, and it's a good idea now, at least I think so.

So anybody up for it? Sounds like a good excuse to get together with a few other hambers for a couple hours and cruise around the city and ******** and hopefully even help some people, and get us some positive publicity. It's just something different than the usual toy drive or benefit car show or whatever.

Maybe somebody is doing this here in LA now, I dunno, but if they are they get no publilcity and I ain't never seen one.
I'll get a magnetic car sign or two made up(somebody more gifted than myself would have to design it) so we get some visibility, and I can't imagine it would be hard to get a news story or two done on guys in trad. cars cruising around the city to help stranded motorists.

I think it sounds like fun! Is anybody up for it, or is it a horrible idea that somebody else has already perfected or something? I'm game if y'all are. What do you think?

I'd be down! I'm in H.B. though. Maybe we could alternate areas. Or have several "chapters", such as L.a. county, orange Co. ect. Anyway, I think it's a great Idea!

I think some up-tight matron you stop to help, is going to think you're going to **** her and shoot you dead.

You've got good intentions, but it's no longer 1957 and you can't go home again.

Maybe we should just stop and offer ***istance on our own? Most of us have jumper cables and rudimentary tools.

I see two possibilities: What goes around, comes around and No good ever goes unpunished.

Tag man, I NEVER even left home. Still a boy scout, I guess. You may be a little cynical because you hail from a town that is famous for carburators that have bedeviled for years and years. ;-)

Sorry I'm a really nice guy... but when I drive my car here for some reason I hate everyone & when I see they're broke down I laugh at them!
We could make a small hAAAmb bumper sticker. or get a 1-800# (ryan what's your home number?) So we could call and post a break down on here so if someone local is online they could get off thieir ***es and help.

although I like the idea, I think driving around looking to help someone out is a bit contrived and idealistic. With that said, if you see someone in need of help, think of those times another person has helped you out and stop to help out. I have another suggestion, though, concerning the hAAAmber alert topic. I think the VW community has a similar travel helpline of sorts.

hAAAmber alert, rather than being an online go-to helpline, would be a physical phonebook of hambers, their locations and what kind of tooling/knowledge/accomodations they can offer (maybe appropriate hours to call), kept in your toolbox. It would, of course, be voluntary but in order to seek help, you must offer your help, too. Maybe the list can have an official annual update so hAAAmbers can stay up to date.

I'm sure there has to be a computer program to compile such info in an organized fashion that's easy and efficient. this way your not carrying around a toolbox full of Word do***ents or print from the forums pages.

this would be especially good for LoneStar Roundup or other roadtrip weekends, or roadtrips in general. a regional thing.

with all this said, all I'd be able to offer is the toolbox in my trunk, a gravel driveway and maybe a lonstar tall-boy

    what do you think?
