learn me! school me some on Rocket motors, I know very little, about this motor. I ask because I have recently acquired what I believe to be a 53-54 303 rocket motor, with 57-58 heads, and did I leave out that it was blown? yes it has a McCulluh blower. I bought this motor from an older guy, who actually didnt want to sell it but I eventually talked him out of it. so I would love to learn more about the motor, my options, and definately more about the blower. heres some pics.
Holy **** that is wild looking. Check the tech section on the olds motors for casting numbers and such. Unfortunately I am in Alaska right now so I do not have any of my data with me.
The 303 was made for the first three years. 49-53. Then they upped the displacement to 324 after that. Alot of guys would actually bore out the 303's to 324, then olds just started making 324's. The heads from 49-56 are all interchangable. 57 and later are higher displacements and the heads are different. Interesting setup with the McCulloch super charger Got any more pics? Here is a cool website for the supercharger. http://www.vs57.com/
I do hope you plan to make that coupe a finished, painted car. Like a Rembrandt or Vermeer that engine is a work of art and deserves a pretty framing.
even though I take mild offense to your insinuation that I would build some turd,.. YES I plan to build it towards a 60's show car styling. full and complete. and YES i plan to take it to the next HAMB drags that follow after its completion
Look up McCullach superchargers on the web. (I don't know if the spelling is right). Back in 1959, I had a 303 and put the 56 heads on because of the larger valves and larger ports. It did make a difference on the top end. I had broken enough transmissions by that time that I installed the engine, hydramatic, and rear end in my 34 truck. Best thing I ever did, it was bullet proof. Bob
