Tring To Do King Pins On 41 Ford Does Any One Have Any Tips Other Than Removing Axle And Taking It To A Machine Shop Thanks
I must have missed something ... A '41 Ford has the KING PIN BUSHINGS in the SPINDLES! No need to remove the axle; the king pins should be a "snug fit" in the axle king pin holes. Then the king pin lock bolts - special, because the are tapered and have a "key" that engages the king pins to hold them in place, and also act as steering stops. (the long nuts that thread on the ends) These "lock bolts" need to be removed BEFORE you can get the king pin up and the spindle off the end of the axle. If the lock bolts are "frozen"; soak with penetrating oil for a couple of days, screw the stop nuts BACK on the ends of the lock bolts and tap - actually "HIT HARD" - until they pop out the front of the axle. Like peanut says, "have your bushings honed, not reamed!" (makes for a MUCH better fit!!) Any good engine re-build shop can handle the honing of the NEW bushings. REMEMBER! The bearing goes UNDER the axle. (between the axle and the spindle)
Thanks Guys Screwed One Bushing Up Alread Had Extra Even Put New Pins In Freezer Thought Of Honing Didnt Want To Make Them To Loose Last Kings Pins I Did Were On A Bus They Fall Rite In And Before That A Twin I Beam Ford Took Axle To Machine Shop Axle Comes Rite Out Ill Try It
