I went to Billetproof ten times and all I got was this lousy... OK, so nothing lousy ever came out of Billetproof for me, but the first ten times I went I didn't get to see much - especially the last five years or so. Now I know what all the hype was about for all these years! I have been hot rodding for nearly 25 years, but the ten years of them spent running Billetproof changed my life the most, and in a small way, changed hot rodding. It changed my life in many ways. Most of all it showed me how great people can be, no matter how much we look like hoodlums. Billetproof has a vibe like no other on the planet, and I love it! Guys from out of the Nor Cal area are always taken aback at how supportive we are of each other. Our whole scene is really something special. The same ten years has also showed me how crappy some people can be, and helped me weed them out of my life, leaving only the quality ones; and there are a TON more of the latter. There are none of the shitty attitudes and actions of the few that ruined Paso for the rest of us. The Billetproof crowd is the best on the planet, and I love you guys for it. Thanks! Like I was saying, this was my first time attending the show (as a spectator), and I had a BLAST! All I did was push my daughter around in her new pedal/push car all day talking to people and checking out cars. It was amazing spending the whole day with her, my wife, and 5,000 of my closest friends. I even got to see my absolute favorite band, The Demonics. Russell and the band even played a song for my daughter Regan. I have been trying to get them to play since year one, so I was stoked! This year’s show featured the best cars ever in attendance, and few of the worst. But, honestly, the great FAR FAR FAR outweighed the crap. There has and will always be cars that are less than “right” at every event in the world. This event just happens to have the highest concentration of the best in traditional hot rodding. OSR is definitely having a negative influence on the whole industry, but I’m confident that the “rat rodders” will get their shit together and start down the “right” path. Dear Rat Rodders, stop decorating your cars with kitschy garbage, and stop building hot rods that are lower in the back than the front (kustoms are taildraggers, not hot rods). Tasteful and timeless is always better than “hey, look at me!” Please invest in old magazines for inspiration, or ones that get it like Rod & Kulture or Church, not shit rags like OSR. Back on topic… This show is like my baby. My baby has now moved out to go to college. I still love her and I’ll miss her, but it is for the best if she is to grow. Again, thanks for all your support and friendship over the last ten years. I am more grateful than I can express. I look forward to the next ten as a spectator, participant and friend. P.S. I took exactly ZERO pictures. I didn't even get one of the Best Of Show trophy after I finished it. Oh well.
I agree Kirk, I'm so happy for you that you get to spend more time with your family enjoying car events. I'm going to assume that you will be at the Chicagoland event next weekend so I'll see you on Friday. Looks like I'll be riding with Dad in his '56 Olds. I'll look for you and Brandon. I'd like to say "hi" and catch up.
Kirk, thanks for taking us on the journey with you, it was one hell of an experience!!! The last 10 years of BP really allowed me to see how amazingly creative our friends in the Hobbie are! Dirty
The cutest girl in the coolest car.. Do you know who the father is? She's too cute to be yours... Good to see you again Kirk. R
It was great hangin with you and Christina and Regan. Almost like old times. Im proud of you bro, you've really done alot for yourself and this Nor Cal car deal since the times at the Greaseball. Nor- Cal Por Vida!!
You have been there since before day one and have always been a great friend. Thanks for coming up again!
missed the first four yrs.....but I sure wont miss the next 10.....thanks Kirk for putting this together and thanks to the new HMFIC for keep keeping on
Kirk. I had met you before, at a few shows, in various locations. The fact that you invited me into your home without hardly knowing me was truly amazing. I harldy said a word, just let you talk.....yet the reward was all mine. I really hope people realize what an asset you are to hot rodding today. I feel sorry for those who are into anti billetproof, or think you sold out by going to Goodguys. To put your reputation on the line and make their shows better for us deserves mad kudoz. Thanks again. I had the best time hanging out. Hope to do it again sooner than later, My door is always open for you...........................but not my back door.
I crossed paths with you at least four or five times but didnt want to bother you. It's great that you finally are able to take the time to see what the Hot Rod world has had the privilege of seeing. Billetproof is truly one of the best car shows year in and year out.....you should be proud of what you and select group of friends created.
That sure is a little cutie you got there Kirk;before you know it she'll be asking you for the keys to a REAL car! Enjoy them while you can.Mine just turned 40 in May.Hope to see you in Detroit next year.
Anyone who builds a bike named "My Little Pony" will always be my favorite manwhore and he gives out free beer, oh and came up with a pretty good idea for a car show too..... Glad you got to have a wander round this time...
were you the guy in the sombrero? Oh yea...my kid bought a CD from the demonics and has been singin aloha oy all damn day! Thanks buddy!
From the pic, it looks like she has been well educated in good taste of cars. Must be from her Zen Master!!! KNUX!
Kirk, good seeing you and glad you could enjoy the show instead of running it. Billetproof is a great show and it has great potential for more.
Aloha Oy? I haven't heard their version but unless it's some new Yiddish twist I think it's Aloha O'e .
