I think they are cool as hell !! Love the rear of the roof / wrap around rear window. Lets see..chrome reverse with narrow whites..lowered...maybe a tube grill... 59 Caddy tailight lenses...those trucks don't need much. Post pics when you can, and congrats on the score!

I find it interesting that two cars/trucks the '59 and '60 El Caminos can be on the same chassis and floors and have the same top and glass and yet be so totally different in their presence and looks.

The best way I can describe them is the '59 is like a Gothic Batmobile and the '60 is like a '50's Sci-fi Space Ship!

I have a '60 El Camino in the garage now... long term project, lined up behind a couple other long term projects...
    Nothing to see yet.

I will post pics when I get it. I just want to make a good dependable fast driver. Good ideas above like lowerig it and white walls. I like really understsated cars with no frills, all business. Thanks for the input. Still want some pics.

  7. Saw this one, while at the Pamona Swap, last year. Love the quote about one being "Batmobile" and other a "Spaceship". :p

Jonzcustom, we need more detailed pics of your project, sounds like an amazing build. Chopped with a 4dr roof?.......WOW!

i own a 59 and it does look about a foot or 2 longer than the 60:cool:

  9. I have had both a 59 and a 60. Both great cars. By far the coolest El Camino's. Both have rust issues, but just get busy and fix it, start driving around having fun enjoying your car.

i bought a 60 elcamino 3 monts ago.... as you can see, im still working on it..... i have done alot in those three months.... i made a tube grill, lowered it, put a new motor and tranny in it (350, 350) got rid of the chrome pieces and hand fabed some scoops( sry no pic), i extended the fins on the back 3 inches( getting rid of the gas cap)... once the car is fullycomplete i am planning on putting chrome reverse with white walls .... if your wondering how much to cut the coil springs, i cut a coil and a half and that dropped it 3 inches... thats your decition to go more or less.... well any way good luck on your el camino and enjoy it as much as i do.......

  17. I prefer the '59, if I had a '60 I'd think about rounding up a '59-60 Pontiac or Buick, or maybe '59 Olds, and build it with the nose, dash, doorskins, etc. from one of those.

That first white '60 appears to have a '59 Imperial grille, since someone mentioned it.

Nice year for these, and practically a custom right out of the factory. Although I like the variety of photos posted here so far, my vote would be toward restraint. Lowered, tube grill, Caddy tail lights, maybe a mild set of scallops. Unless you really want a wild one, you don't need to do too much to one of these. Best wishes.

unless he did a major change... all 59-60 el caminos had coil springs on all four corners.

  25. lowering coils or cut spring......mine i cut 2 full coils on new moog springs.

I don't know witch one I like better!!! The '59 or the '60 Chevy, as for an El Camino man it would be hard for me to pick the one they are both cool cars. I also like the Batmobile and Spaceship analogy.

I see alot of interest 59-60 Els and wagons resurfacing here. In '69 I scraped my uncle's wagon for the 283 in it, got rid of the tranny 20 yrs later. my dad had 60 2D sedan Telephone car, belt broke,,, we scraped it,, I still have 2 tail lite lenses, new, never installed. where I'm at you only see 2 or 3 '60 s here, PM me if anyone is interested in the lenses.

60's are cheaper to buy but 59's are cooler if there is such a word.

These are 59s, not 60s, but they might give you some ideas...
