This rear end is under a 1974 Dodge van 200. I dont know what kinda power plant it had. The width and bolt pattern work for me, I just need to know if it will hold up to a 440.

    Thanks

    looks like an 8 1/4"...not like a 9 1/4" or Dana 60 9 3/4" ...too rounded.

It's an 8 3/8 rear. Same as the 8 1/4 basically, just a bit bigger and used in trucks. It should hold up to decent power from a mild 440. I had one in a 1/2 ton truck with a built smallblock and it held up fine to a ton of abuse in that thing.

It depends on the whole combination as to whether it will hold up. If you have it in a light car with skinny tires, an automatic trans and a mild 440, it will probably hold up. On the other hand, if you are going to have some big sticky tires with a suspension that will hook it up, a manual trans behind a built 440 in a 3000 pound car, you would be better served with a well prepped 8 3/4, Dana 60 or a nine inch Ford
