What is the difference in a Model T & a Model A rear crossmember?

I need one for a T rear spring & was just wondering if either would work.

T spring will work in an A crossmember but not the other way around
the a spring leaves are 1/4" wider

the A crossmember has a higher arch then the T though....so depending on the ride height you want....you may want to look into each one more closely

heres a T crossmember on the back of my roadster with a t spring
i had to add a bit of spacing above the spring to get the ride height i wanted since the T spring is so much lower

Yes, the A spring is 2-1/4" vs 2" on the T.
Here is a picture of my Model A Coupe frame. I used the stock A spring and removed 3 of the top leafs.

Looks like, for what I'm doing, I need a T rear crossmember. Thanks for the info.

This was the A spring & crossmember in my RPU.

  5. Just to confuse ya - here's a T crossmember and a drop frame T one...

  6. What's a "drop frame T"?

    Sam.

  7. English T's, maybe other european countries - not sure though, had a drop frame for '26/27. Higher arch rear crossmember, rear fenders raised on the side of the body, raised section front fenders, front axle "upside down" at the ends and dropped spindles. Factory hot rod parts!

Most of the differences in this picture. There's an American fender on the left of the picture, dropframe one on the right. Dropframe axle n' spindles.

All I'm seeing under that T is a stock axle for a 26-27. The fenders I see no difference in other than that the p***enger side one is really defromed and more ragged than the driver side.
The 26-27s had many features both body and ch***is to make them look lower as well as actually be lower, but I see nothing except the RHD steering to make a difference in an American T and this UK T.

  9. It's not deformed - it's a completely different shape - the raggedness is the compression in the picture I was sent. On full lock, the tyre drags on the leading edge of the cutout in the US fender, and misses the drop frame fender by around 3-4". And the axle end slopes up, not down?

I absolutely agree with you. I`ve also noticed that while compairing a "low axle" i`ve got, with pictures of the us axles.
Just look at the location of the lower "ear" below the spindle on the axle above and this picture of a US axle.
Must be close to 2" drop built in there?

I almost forgot: I also found a set of strange spindles with this axle that has got the "pin" for the wheels as high as possible up against the upper bearing above the spindle. Any idea what that is?

Hi, yeah they look very much like those.
With that axle and those spindles i sure wish i had a model t to put them on.
But i guess it`s that way with alot of parts..

i will take a closer look and see what it is.

If I can remember tonight, I'll take a pic of an A and T crossmember sitting together. Plus, I have a T front axle for reference to your axle pic.
