I was wondering if any of y'all are heading out east to Hershey and Carlisle next month? Having just survived the move north from Arkansas to Wisconsin, I'm looking forward to the chance to hit the road for a few days. I'm lucky and will be heading out for both...I was wondering if anyone knew what all was going on at these shows. Personally, I'm looking forward to the swaps and hoping to pick up a few pieces for my truck that I can ship back with some of the guys who are driving out. So...any of you 'ol timers have any suggestions on what I won't want to miss at these shows?
If your going to Hershey, set some time aside to tour the Antique Automobile Collectors Association's museum. For kids there is Chocolate World (bit pricey). Good luck parts chasin, have fun!
Thanks for the tips. I'm not sure that the chocolate factory will end up on my agenda. But the AACA Museum is supposed to be great.
If you've never been, the Chocolate Factory (actually really just a giant gift shop and Disney-style ride/tour) HAS to be on your agenda...it's right between the Red and the Chocolate fields, not out of your way at all. It's the perfect time to stock up on candy for Halloween. Go early (in the week, as well as in the day,) bring quarters to tip the porta pottie attendants, bring a wide variety of clothes (from cold to rain to summer heat; bring mud boots or something else comfortable to walk in wet weather in.) Eat lunch either a half hour early or after 1:30 so as to avoid the noon rush. Pick up bottled water before you get there. Yes, do not miss the race car demo runs. Also, there are many auctions going on this year...see if you can get into the previews...lots of nice stuff going up for sale. Don't skip aisles in the swap...the part you need will be at the very end of the very aisle you figured "looked like it didn't have anything in it." Do skip aisles in the car corral. It's usually laid out so that you can cut between rows and still have a feel for what's there. Biggest tip: if you see something you need, buy it right then and there. If you hesitate and think you're going to go back and get it later, it will be gone. Everyone who has ever been to Hershey learns this lesson the hard way. Cris
Some good advice there (especially the last one). Here's another--take a small wagon with you. While it might seem like a pain in the ass to pull it behind you all day, that pain will erase itself when you find the deal of the century on something heavy half a mile from your truck.
