OK I hope I wont get all "this is a pre 64 fourm" **** since this is going on my 31 model A. I have a 70 F100 steering box that I am reversing for my cowl steering. I figure since I have the box apart I should replace the bearings. the problem I am having is locating a rebuild kit for the box? at min I would like new bearings. if anyone knows where I can get some please let me know.

Take the bearings into your local bearing supply house to get replacements or take the measurements and hit up McMaster Carr.

Could you explain how you're reversing it?

I haven't checked, but Dennis Carpenter might have the parts you need.

Are you sure you need to replace them? I just got done doing the same thing and the bearings were fine. If the races aren't brinnelled, the bearings are probably O.K. Most of the Saginaw boxes I've played with have been in good shape inside unlike Gemmers. (Unless they're full of water).

typically on these year trucks they are fine. i don't think i have heard of many people rebuilding them. i have a 72, same truck really. I am guessing it's the manual steering box.

It is the manual box. one of the ball bearings came apart when I took it out of the case. the retainers and balls all look good. the needle bearings are bothe in good looking shape but a pain in the **** since they are the self retain type. So i have to use grease to keep in place while i rebuild it and hope i dont loose one. I am going to try the Bearing, Belt and Chain in Phx tomorrow.

Well I took the box down to have bearing cups put in it and turns out the gear is bent:mad: that's the chance you take with salvage yard parts. After talking to a guy at Benchworks they are going to help me get a new worm gear and help me reverse the box.
to reverse the box is fairly simple. Follow this link as it is a great tech article. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=77658
