Recent rebuild on the head of my full pressure 235, now after it warms up it loses oil pressure and smokes like a chimney, im thinking rings but wanted to run it by the pros and see if maybe it could be something else im over looking, havent had a chance yet to do a compression test at temperature to see. thoughts?
All you did was rebuild the head, and not touch the lower end? From the two clues you've given, I'm guessing that you screwed up the rocker arm oiling system somehow. If you've got a loose connection on the center oiling pipe, it could be spewing extra oil all over the valves, losing pressure (more noticeable at running temperature than when cold) and getting ****ed through the valve guides.
correct, i never touched the bottom end, i just had a head gasket start leaking so irebuilt the head while it was off, ill pull the valve cover tomorrow and see what i can find out.
What about oil seals on the valve stems. Oil might be running down the stems, through the guides and into the combustion chambers.
I wouldn't even consider doing a valve grind on a mid to high mile Chevy 6 without doing (at least) rings & rod bearings at the same time. The restored compression has more than likely caused the worn rings to loose their sealing ability.
