3000 H.P....is it jet powered?..is that shadow in the back the driver?? if its a jet why are the tires smoking? where is the engine?...too many questions..yes a very cool picture....
...that car was owned and built by the great "Michigan Madman", ...E.J. Potter. It ran an Allisson aircraft engine. He did exibition runs with it until he almost burned up when something went wrong and it caught on fire. Then he pulled the motor back out, re-installed the orig. slant six and trans and drove the car as a grocery getter til it rusted away. E.J. was mostly known for running a Chev V8 powered motorcycle as an exibition vehicle on dragstrips across the country. He's retired now in Florida.
thats the kind of wagon where you put the groceries in the back and do a few holseshots and out comes a full cooked meatloaf and mashe potato dinner
The story is actually funnier than that,EJ split up with his mrs after she had had enough of the cars etc and demanded she have her car back...so the allison was pulled and the S/6 replaced. Even funnier was the father/son relationship between EJ and his dad. EJ's dad was some sort of academic so when EJ asked his dad once, ' are humans the only intelegent life in the universe?" his old man replied ' not in your case...' .EJ got his own back when pops was away on some conference ,EJ took dads 58 Plymouth and cut the guts out of the car and dropped in a Allison with a tugboat clutch and 2-1 reverser for a trans. No roll cage and EJ sat right up against 'big Al' . Needless to say Pops was more than a little pissed off...
Kind of funny.. The last time i saw E.J he was at the Saline (michigan) fair and had a pulling tractor with an allison in it.. Ha Ha good old E.J. You had to have a helmet to run so he had a baseball helmet.. Im really suprised the guy didnt kill himself.. I dont remember the wagon but id seen him run the Bike.. Dave
I have a magazine article on that 58 plymouth. What a beast. Wish I knew where to look for it. If it turns up I'll scan it and put it up here.
