I've seen a rash of fake accounts late night on the board. (2-6am est time) Random 1 post people throwing up full on ads in their posts for car insurance and I think it was IPODs a few nights ago.

A lot of people don't post. If someone hasn't been here for a while, or doesn't know that much about rodding in general, some of you guys may not realize this but posting on here can be a bit intimidating. It's amazing how people get ripped on sometimes around here. I'm an example of that. I keep my mouth shut unless it's opinionated or I know for sure I know what I am talking about. Or I have a serious question that I need help with... Since I have a "Rat Rod" and all... Or so I'm told...:p

Otherwise I agree with the previous statement, many people truly are here just for the cl***ifieds. Usually great prices and good trustworthy people to buy from.

I know i dont have alot of post advantage over anyone because i joined a month ago and i hate to open my mouth too much because it makes me look/sound dumb alot... but i try to post at least once a day... or every other... i dont understand why others cant do that, it dont take a whole lot of effort.

and as far as that goes... i think that it should be a 10 post requirement before posting in cl***ifieds

I can only imagine that there are a lot of members who might have 0 posts. Some people sign up because it is free and they can just lurk around and gleam info posted by others. Considering the number of members this site has and the variety of posters that I have run across on various topics, I would guess that the number of 0 posters could be quite high.

I'm sure a lot of guys are on here to learn and probably don't have much to add. Nothing wrong with that. They've got as much of a right to the cl***ifieds as anyone IMO. Money is money.

I've been on here a long time and I rarely post. Alot of mean spiritedness around here. Not always the most inviting place for new people. There's so many people posting whatever I'm gonna say has probably already been said.

What the hell you talking about 'getting ripped on' I'll rip on your *** you freaking cheese head! Rats like cheese so I guess cheese heads like rat rods!!!!:D :D
Now that I got that over with I agree about the intimidating part. I have experienced the same thing a few times. Pays to grow thick skin when you get in here. Just got to remember, opinions are like *** holes, everybody has one, and some are bigger than others. I have also learned its not only the question you ask but the way you ask it that determines what kind of answer you get. I'm sure lots sign up just because someone tells them what a great site this and they want to be a part of it. Then they get in and follow a few posts and decide that they better read and learn before asking the first stupid question. By the way, there are no stupid questions, just stupid answers.

  15. Shoot man, nowadays is nothing like in the early days of the HAMB. Back in like '97 or '98, it was BRUTAL. Today's HAMB is way more laid back than it used to be............E

  16. I had a few 0-posters ask on ads. They seemed like they were up to funny business, so I didn't answer. One guy that seemed to be the same guy asking about the same car from at least two different accounts, for instance.

...I know this place could be intimidated for a FNG,but thats the way it is.
And to post is not only to ask or show something, sometimes you could just support some other members work,or, ride,etc...
The important to me is to be active, and, learn, try to help ,and ,HOPEFULLY,it gets better with time...
...but again, its just my two cents!!!:)

the moderators asked to pm people not post on ads. So the newbys read the rules and the old members keep on doing what they have been doing.

What he said. I was scared to death to post back then! OK, that may be overstated but I lurked & listened for ages and when I started posting it was very infrequent. Things are defintely PC nowadays. BTW whatever happened to Mud?

Here we go with the post numbers again. I have said it once or was that a hundred times......what difference does it make if you have 100,000 posts or just 1? It seems to me that everybody on this board started at one time with 0. I have laughingly watched so many up the count by answering with one word, yea, cool, yup, etc., what the hell for, to be cool cause you got all those"posts"? Give me a break. I'll bet I could up my post count to well over a thousand before the weekend. So come on guys, lighten up on the numbers ****. I know you have scared a lot of good potential HAMB members away with all this righteous ********. Calm down and enjoy the HAMB board for what it was designed for.

I've only posted once before I believe but it seems like a pretty friendly place overall. I'm here lurking around trying to learn. Been into late 60's - 80's hotrods and race cars for a long time and always loved the old tin but never owned any. Gettin old(er) now (40) and am trying to learn as much as possible before I jump in and buy a really old car that requires knowledge I just dont have yet. So some of us 0 or low posters are here for a good reason I believe. You know the old saying sometimes is true - "Better to remain quite and be thought of as stupid that to open mouth and remove all doubt"!

I didn't post for nearly a year after registering here. For the longest time, I would just lurk and use the search feature on the forums.

As Yogi Berra once said: "You can observe a lot by watching."

  26. I lurked in '04-05 and didn't join for a long time...this place was BRUTAL back then,,,I can't imagine the earlier days....

It was also HILARIOUS,,,,I wish the older members who lurk would post,,,,

Back to the original post,,,,it seems like word has gotten out about our cl***ifieds. I get random PM's on my ads all the time from 0 post members...what ****s is that it seems like those are the people who leave you hanging 'cause they don't log in to check their PM's or something. But...the HAMB cl***ifieds still beat the alternatives.

I have not posted much but try to transfer my knowledge when I do but there is always someone who doesn't like the answer soooo they get off on you. Very manly? Takes a BIG spine to talk down to people over the internet.

I'll admit it, it took me a while to get the guts to start posting.

Although I will agree I have gotten a lot of p.m.'s from people with 0 posts. When I answer their questions, I never hear from them again.

I'd bet the majority of 0 posts are here for tech advice (which I think is the best anywhere) not so much cl***ifieds.

I think it's good to rip somebody for safety issues. The rest of it is like watching groups of girls talk about each other at a bar, if you took that away you'd miss it.

O posts mean they aren't participating at all, no intro,, nothing. Now I know intro's aren't required anymore, but they are a good idea. I don't think anyone needs to have 1,000 posts, but if you've been on here for a year or more and you don't have 50 or 60 posts I seem to be a bit sceptical. The guys that have been on here a while will go way out of their way to help someone out. Relays, freebies, all kinds of help. I hate to see them get taken advantage of. **** happens though and you learn. But as Kerry said it's a kinder gentler HAMB these days...
