Whats your chance of getting pulled over ? I have been driving my 5 window almost a year with no pull overs, the tudor was driven 4 years with only 4 times pulled overall over the USA. If you want to go there in your Hot Rod go talk to the judge and see if he will give you a perment. Thro in the milatary thing. Its possible. Good luck and God bless.

  2. Hey, its Monday...time to get in the garage, so I gotta make this quick.

I would go anywhere that needed some help, infact I'd love if someone knew of somewhere specific and I could actually talk to a person in an area needing help. I barely could find where to help in New Orleans. I looked, I wrote, never a responce. Finally someone got in touch. Honestly, I wrote the Red Cross and told them I was ready day of, nothing. So, thats why I was finally going. And If I had the liscence, I probable would have just driven and stumbled onto people along the way.

Not sure if I will take the car as I don't have a dead set partner and would need one to pull this off. Alot of people don't have the oppurtunity to just pick up an go...I'm lucky. Just have trouble going...hahahaaa.

Car is pretty insane as well...Its a hardtail. Friction shocks, etc. I'd have alot of work before I went, so I probable wont make Oct 1st with the car. So I may fly first, then round somebody up and take the car. Either way, I'll keep you all posted. Thanks.

Our church sent several 'teams' to Passcagula, Mississippi to rebuild serveral homes for people who didn't have insurance or any way to get their home rebuilt.
Think about that. There are still people living in fema trailers right now.

My wife made 2 trips here before we moved, the second was with 40 school kids, they all worked rebuilding schools. They did good things.

Mel, i can put you in touch with a friend of my wifes who runs a volunteer program down here rebuilding schools, he sometimes has 100 people a day at one school painting, cleaning, etc etc

I can attest to that, there are still several fema trailers in my neighborhood.

  6. Hey! Looks like I wont be going in Oct. like I had thought I might. Was maybe going to fly as the car idea had just come to me. Oct. is booked for me with all kinds of commitments and I'm still unprepared at the moment. I got the Ok from a friend with a big enough glass bead booth so I can start preping the 34 doors correctly for my inner and outer patches, then onto the rockers. I believe I'll have a lot more work on the 34 before the trip as well. Buttoning up a customers car at moment too. I may shoot for Nov., if I dont get all that I need accomplished, I'm just gonna fly. My house is all tore up too, and winter is coming quick and I need to button it down.

I'll take this time to research other towns and or places that may need some help too, nothing is dead set. I just wanna help some peeps that need some help. And I really wanna go on a road trip that does'nt have a silly car show at the end. Keep you all posted, thanks for all your insight.

I work in NO, and I'm here now. One tip I will give you is that hand-to-hand combat is not much good against AK47s. Other than that come on down, the water is fine!

Theres a lady in our area she wanted to help so she got on craig slist and put up ads offering help. She has been helping since the storm. You might contact some good people that way and get more of an idea of what and where you can go.

Man what a great idea. My family is in Gulfport and Biloxi. Sister a brother in law lost almost everything to include his own buisness. Thanks for wanting to help.

I will fly up there and drive down if the girl gets to ride with me!!!!!!!

"I forget what city it is, but the plantation house of Jefferson Davis, the Confederate President--a national historic site--was wiped off its foundation. Nothing left of it but a big empty spot where the house stood. And the entire town it was in was hit the same."

That would be Biloxi, Mississippi. You've got a whole coast line to help if you come to MS and I doubt you'dfind a tenth of the violence and crime that you'd find in New Orleans.

NO got the headlines from a levee that overflowed, the Mississippi coast got the damage from Katrina. So if you want to help Katrina victims, MS is where you should be.

I think New Orleans should help themselves before anyone else tries to. F*** 'em.

damnfingers is correct about the facts. New Orleans called clear and then over night when the levee's broke they woke up and started crying about how they could get no help!!!! So tired of hearing about N.O. and not much abvout MS. Their are folks there whom never found a thing of theirs. Most of them would be very, very happy to have a wet house full of water damaged antique family airlomes. (sp???) THANK YOU FOR THE INSPERATION TO ADD SOME FACTS TO THIS!!!!!!

Actually, fortunately the Jeff Davis residence survived, though pretty damaged, but is coming along nicely, I pass it almost daily. Its taking forever for the repairs because they are trying to duplicate the original construction. There were some other buildings on the property destroyed though.

  16. I think no matter where I go...it will be a trip of a lifetime. As I get ready, I'll let you all know. Got the ok to borrow a glass bead booth, getting started on repairs, then a major tune-up. I'd really like to plan on stopping at anyone's place I can. Love to meet a few more of you guys along the way. But I'm not going to keep this tread active daily as I have a lot of work to do. Not only to my car, but jobs for people, my home, and I have two other trips planned in Oct. Like to pull all this off by Dec. ....but can't be to sure how it will all play out. Keep you all posted! Thanks again...

  17. I stay a couple of days a month in New Orleans and if you know and respect the no go zones, you will have nothing but fun. Lets face it, East L.A., East St Louis, many parts of NYC, Chicago, Miami, Detroit, etc aren't safe either.

I am not saying this is a bad idea at all, but do you realize the damage the hurricane did to South Mississippi? New Orleans got all the publicity they could handle, the media did that for them. Have you seen pictures of South Mississippi before and after? We had it just as bad or WORSE than Louisiana. It sucks for New Orleans, but they were flooded, not HIT. Check into South Mississippi as well before making plans for New Orleans....or do both, it's only a 1.5 hour drive.

  19. I will be making my second trip down to the Biloxi/Gulport area. 'Nawlins got the press but southern MS took the brunt of the storm.
We have been working out of the Methodist church in Vancleave, MS.
The people still need help and appreciate what little we can do.
They have a "triaged" list of people who need help the most (mostly elderly and disabled). We raised $35,000 to take with us last time.
