Well, to anyone interested, here's the latest project vehicle under construction (actually RE-contruction!) at the Fat Hack Garage these days! It's a chopped four door 51 Mercury that needs a complete mechanical make-over, but the basic elements are already there. It's got a 302 Ford in it backed by a stout C4 automatic hooked to the stock Merc rear axle with full duals and glasspacks. Has a real nice tone to it when it feels like running! After I drove this thing a while to assess all of it's needs, it kinda hit me that it reminded me of that little devil kid from the old 60s comic books, "Hot Stuff"!! It has a very impish nature, for sure...but it's a pretty loveable little devil! The first major (and I do mean MAJOR!) job is a total and complete re-wiring job! I honestly have never seen a car wired this poorly that anyone would have the balls to actually try and DRIVE! There was NO way to save ANY of the mess that the previous owner made out of the wiring, so it's getting gutted to the core and re-done from scratch. I may do a few tech post "updates" to illustrate how I plan to go about making everything actually WORK while keeping the new wiring simple, clean and reliable. I've already made and installed the rear light harness (I like to start at the rear of a vehicle and work my way forward when wiring a car), and the rest is soon to follow. There is a whole lot more to be done mechanically speaking, but this car has the spirit there already! When you lean back in that Lincoln bench seat and peer out over the louvered hood through that short windshield, you KNOW you're driving something cool! (Untill another tuft of Fun Fur blows off the dash and smacks ya in the face! Ha Ha...I swear DIRTYT had a hand in this "interior"!!!)
Hey that's my buddy Pat's car, I posted it for sale on here quite a while ago. We used to go out to lunch and you would end up with angel fur all over your clothes and in your eyes, he loves that stuff. Good to see someone bought it who will appreciate it, not that he didn't, but it was his daily driver for a while.
Bitchen...looks like someone stuck an M-80 up an Angora rabbits backside and blew it all over the interior of the car! Congrats on the score looking forward to its progress..
lol. i thought you had some rust bucket pickup truck these days! nice ride hope to see it at autorama in march!
Ha Ha...the blue truck that leaked all over your driveway WAS mine...(that's Chuck the Truck!!)...but this Merc actually belongs to fellow HAMBer CathyH...I'm just fixing it up to make it reliable and roadworthy for her!
Ha Ha...you don't know the HALF of it...just stick your head inside that interior and that Fun Fur attacks ya!! Pat was pretty cool, though...I kinda wanted his yellow 5 window Deuce...and I tried to tell him thta he needed to paint his 55 Chevy gloss black to keep in tune with his "American Graffiti" theme he has goin' on...but he wants to keep it yellow!!
They sure don't FIT worth a darn, though!! Ha Ha...the way they're "installed", you have to remove them (or at least partially remove them) to get the light sockets out to change bulbs (everything is getting replaced here!)...and getting the tail light assemblies back into place is LOTS of fun!! I do like the way they look...and once wired up with weak splices replaced and fresh Long Life bulbs, they are plenty BRIGHT!
