The first time I ever heard of "base coat-clear coat" was when my dad's 1985 Cadillac got wrecked and I remember the body guy complaining about how hard it was to match the color, he'd think he had it right but then the shade would change when he shot the clear, finally asked dad if he could just paint the whole car.
Hey, The first I remember hearin' of BC/CC was 'bout 1975-76. Volkswagon and BMW were getting into heavy clear usage. By the early 80s just about everyone had gone to the use of the BB/CC painting system, first with the metalic finishes, later with the solid colours as well. Swankey Devils C.C.
I don't think he asked about the clear part. Anyway, 1st time i saw it was in 1999 (base, NOT primer)on a 53-54 Ford at Bob's Toluca Lake. DEAD straight car but no shiny. It was a pea green mettalic, and was love at 1st sight. What a great idea i thought
