OK, I know that the mechanically retarded shouldn't undergo hotrod projects but what can I say...I want a ride and I want to do the work myself. So here is my problem. I'm in the middle of trying to get the trans removed from this Olds 371. There are about 30 or so nuts holding the fluid coupler to the flywheel. I'm not able to turn the motor over to access the nuts at the top of the flywheel. Either it's stuck or just being a *****. I've done this once before when I removed the Hydrostick off of the 371 that came with the ride my dad gave me. But, the Hydrostick didn't have these two guide pins holding the trans to the bellhousing. So, I was able to spin it around to get to each nut. I'm off to get some Magic Mystery Oil and see if I can't get this thing to move. Does anyone have any ideas that might make this easier for me? Thanks - e.r.
doesn't the torque converter just slide into the ******? why not just unbolt the ****** and pull it off (if its out of the car) might make a little mess, but problem solved.
No. Are the 2 pins in a blind hole, if not, can you knock the pins through, to spin the trans??? I don't have one here to look at.
Thanks F&J you were right, those pins knocked right out of there no problem. I'm glad though that I prefaced my question with the fact that I'm mechanically retarded because spinning the trans upside down got me nothing but a great view of the underside. I don't know what I was thinking. I filled the cylinders up with Marvel Mystery Oil. I ought to be able to get the thing moving after a little while. I think that's the only way I'll get access to those nuts. Thanks again.
