I picked this up on the side of the road, anybody know how old it is?,and I'm looking for ideas to do something with it.
Westinghouse Standard, mid 30's thru the mid 40's. That looks like an early one. They made hundreds of thousands of these things, so it's about as rare as an empty Coke bottle . Still, nice find---worth fooling with.
Looks similar to the one I have, only mine is missing the lid. Good find, a lot of people tun them into trailers to tow behind thier rods. I saw one in an antique store a yr or so ago, lot worse shape than mine with a $500 price tag on it.. You could also convert it to a gas barbeque, that would be dofferent.
It sure looks like the one in Mr. Butler's Market in the late 50s. It had water in it and really kept them cold. He had a 40 Dodge panel truck behind the store for years.
Whattya mean any ideas for it? If it was mine, Id paint it red and have it re-lettered. Put some decent casters under it and fill it with ice and beer for when friends come over. Thats just me though.
If you need Coke decals I have a catalog somewhere here from the only authorized company to do decals.
I've got one just like that, only a different color, and not as big and,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I don't think he needs decals, these particular machines have cocacola script in raised letters on the sides, they just need painted white
I have two of them. One is just like yours. It was in the back of a guys truck in line at the dumps. I asked him if I could have it, and he said yes. It's the one in the picture. My other one is real nice, and the Coca Cola logo is a stencil. That one is in my house.
Alongside the road!?! Man how'd those boyscouts, girlscouts, churchgroups, convicts, etc miss that when they were doing the roadside clean up? Cool find though.
If you REALLY want to do it right, have the cooling unit re-done in it and keep it running in your shop, full of ice cold frosties in bottles. -Brad
