Lot of work but ugly is ugly. Take Tori Spelling for instance she has had more money and body work on her than that Volvo bit it still UGLY! Is it a rod? I don't think so, first is it pre 48? If not I would call it a custom?
i agree with devilscustom that it is an tractor... some background might be needed for all none swedish folks here.. since wwii due to war with taxes and so on people converted cars into tractors to use on their farms ... was done mostly in the 40ies and 50ies, i even own one 1928 tudor that is shortened into an tractor... in the late 70ies and the 80ies aswell as onwards to these days people are still driving them, almost 90% or somethingl like that of the "a-tractors" that they are called (or aka. epa tractor) is made out of the volvo duett model, they people who run them are mostly 16-18 years olds that have them until they can get an real drivers licence, you have to be 18 in sweden to get an licence, BUT can get an tractors licence at 16 (in some cases earlier though) so thus they can drive an "car" on the road the cars MUST have 2 trannys inline with the 2nd locked at second gear so the cars can't go to fast... i belive this to be an fairly swedish phenomena. very common in the country side, not as common in bigger citys.. not really regarded as any hotrod or even street rod material here no swedish made car is basicly valued as high as old american iron among hot rodders here, if owned its merly winter cars or dailys... not that there is anything really wrong with the old volvos but its just not really the same thing as building an real hot rod etc..
If he had not Cut the rear fenders and relocated the Tail lights, I think that would have helped. Yeah I guess she is a Hot Rod
I would say hot rod. It is a decent looking truck but I love the longroofs and i think it would have been much cooler to keep it as it was
That proves you can make a SOMETHING out of a sows ear. I think its pretty damned ungenious. Whoever did it had quite a imagination to envision it before he got out the torch. I'll give it a 8.
OK, don't know if anyone has said it yet or not, but he should have just left it a wagon and chopped it, channelled it and did that front end work and it would have looked one hell of a lot cooler, minus the green of course.
More custom than rod, and yes I think it might have looked better as a wagon. Green is not my favorite color and I'm not crazy about the tail lights. Having said that though, I get the feeling that the builder had certain requirements he had to meet and used what he had to meet them. Gotta admire using what you have instead of pitching money at it.
More Custom than Hot Rod for sure. I might be interested it would make a nice mate to this one.......However as old as this thread is it's prolly already gone.
thank you... it's not my taste but sure, it's a hot rod. i like some of what they did and dislike other aspects of it but at least they are doing something and not sitting on the net criticising what other people are doing.
Many of you people says that it was sad to cut it up to a truck... ...well, so are the rules, you have to put a small bed on it, and you aren't allowed to have a rear seat, not even cargo area inside the cab behind the front seat. In the earlier days you had to shorten them too, but nowadays you can make them how long you want, you can also build them from a car with unibody, which wasn't allowed some years ago. As some people have mentioned before, this is a car built after the swedish rules of converting a car/truck to a tractor, which once came to make it possible for the farmers to have cheap tractors, but nowadays it is only used as a car for people without a drivers license, mostly 16 year old people because you have to be 18 to have a drivers license in Sweden, but only 16 for a tractor license (15 if you live on a farm).
Well.........this is a tough call. The builder put an assload of thought and work into this making something he wanted. I't not my cup of tea mind you but I can applaud the effort and workmanshp put into it. I'd call it a rod....just going by what he probaly had to work with in choice of vehicles availible in his area and the major mods he made.
i like the coupe versions of this car. he did alot of hard work to it. depending on where he is from around the world. i would say yes
It is a swedish car (or rather tractor)... With that, I don't mean that Volvo is a Swedish brand, but the builder/owner is swedish. Though there was no coupé versions, Volvo did only build two door fastback sedans and the station wagon/delivery version, though wagons/deliveries were different from the sedans, they had a separate frame (unibody on sedans), and all sheetmetal except the front, hood and front fenders were actually different, though they use the same windscreen, but it is mounted more "straight upwards" on the delivery/wagon models.
I say custom but as the rule goes build what you like for you not everyone else. The back is kinda out there and I never cared for square headlights/taillights on anything ....just my .02. I can however appreciate all the work that went into it. Someone has skills........
You almost got it all right The majority of A-tractors or Epa-tractors are registred to owners who live inside the citys. But just a few years ago almost all A-tractors were located on the country side. And they doesnt have to have two trannys. But that's the most common way to get it down to top 18mph. /Eric.
It works, as far as being a hot rod is concerned, but that rear. That rear seems out of place. Almost like he tried TOO hard.
yes that is what we in sweden call a epa traktor ,the maximum speed should be 30km and you can drive it when you are 16,,it is a great substute for a bike when you are in that age,,mostly used in the country side where they are long distances to school and friends,,
otOmOto, Its not a hot rod in my view, I'd say its a well worked over street rod. Lots of great work for such and ugly ride............. Cruiser
