Nice find and GREAT story to go along with it. I really feel for the previous owner and I'm so happy to hear that you took the time to listen to him and his stories, stories you will be able to p*** down to others, whether that be the next "keeper" of the car or your car pals sitting around over cold ones. Nothing beats keeping a cars history alive.

  2. Coooooooooollll!!!!!!!!! What are your plans for it? Fenders?or no? I personally remember a model 40 with a hemi and fenders, no hood sides, metallic blue, blue and white tuck and roll, it was awesome!

When someone refers to something as gay, they usually have issues about their own ***uality.....so don't let those comments bother you, just hope that someday the gay accuser finds himself a nice husband, and they live happily ever after in their cute little cottage in SanFrancisco........(and btw, the car and story are great....it shows cl*** toward the previous owner, and respect for the history)

I may add some small rear fenders and something over the front wheels. Would like to keep it almost the way I found it. We'll see, time will tell. I do plan to change the grille and add four strombergs on top of a Weiand WC245 intake with the parts that I already have here.

And for the record, the owner is doing finacially better now, knows he could have sold the car for more money and is fully aware of what the car could bring done....but the sale of this car was not all about money. All in all, he is at a different point in his life and it is not important for him anymore to finish it.

When "someday" does come, It will be dropped off with the keys for a weekend for him to enjoy. Just another way of saying thanks.

Thanks for the feedback and I am sure I will have lots of questions when I begin to tear this thing down and put it back together, someday......

    Great car, excellent story.

And geez...after 63 years, a 28 year Navy career, a 41 year marriage and two kids I find out I'm gay. The HAMB is amazing!

Cool. Nice car. When I bought mine I just felt real bad about telling the guy it would stay stock. I even sold all my beliefs out and said I hated that "Kustom" look. LMAO. ****in' right. Oh well. The old ******* wasn't gonna sell it to me otherwise.

The way I see it is this. .....

Like we have all run into you hear the story of the car sitting in a garage, or yard and an owner who won't sell. This is the guy who got the good deal, because he is, who he is.

I'm a moderator on Pirate4x4....I have a friend. He's is the world champion of a sport that we are into. Good stand up guy. I once went with him to buy a pristine, original, last year, CJ7 from an original owner couple, who only used it to go to their cabin. He talked the car down, he pointed out all the flaws, he made the people feel bad. He even put the transfercase in 4wd, and when it bound up on the pavement he suggested it could have a problem. All in an attempt to get a better price. I felt dirty after.

I like being the guy who listens for 4 hours if I need to. I am one of those people who at many times seems to get unbeliavable deals. Kind of happy that way.

Good find. Glad you got it. Not sure where your skills or past experiences are. All I can say is don't get too wrapped up in that perfect ideal in your head. Get it running and have fun. Your someday may never come if you don't.

Ya know.......when I read that story.......It seemed like I was standing right there... watching this all unfold. I know the feeling the old guy had in letting it go and I know the feeling you have on the find of a lifetime. I've stood and watched some of my old projects ride off into the sunset until they have dissappeared from sight and it's a kick in the gut. Congratulations on your new project. I know you will grow together as time p***es. Yes ....old cars have souls, listen to what it says to you...trust me..it will let you know.
As far as the gay ******** goes......**** 'em.

  21. great story, p***ion is real, and really sweet to hear that it is being p***ed on.....top stuff.

Having said that, you now carry a torch, a light that needs to shine, and YOU need to make that happen, otherwise all the words in the world don't count.....make it happen, and make that 'someday' sooner than later.....time waits for nobody.

Cheers, and get that car happening,

    Drewfus:)

P.S. or sell it to me:D

Well I know there are a bunch of gay dudes here in San Francisco that would probably beat the **** out of you. What does being gay have to do with San Francisco anyways??? Ever watch HGTV there is gay people all over the country on that channel that have great houses, work out and would also probably beat the **** out of you! I once saw an iron worker in San Francisco get the **** beaten out of him by a gay dude for saying the wrong thing Once again big talk from behind the keyboard on the HAMB LTR Dave PS nice car I wish I had it in my garage!

Dude, this was not directed toward you in any way. 49Ratfink made a smart *** comment to HemiRatRod, and I vented on him. He called the story gay...did you some how miss that part? I used a cliche' about San Francisco because that is where he is from. In fact he had a couple of smart *** comments on this thread. No need to take this **** personal.

And really...there are gay people living other places than San Francisco....gee I did not know that. Have fun watching HGTV.

I PM'ed HemiRatRod about this...he understood it was not directed toward him

What a great car, you deserve it for showing cl***.Nice to know there are still people who feel the pain, that the previous owner goes through parting with their dreams.Better to have Cl***,than be an ***.

  28. awesome car, awesome story, you did the old guy right by taking the time to listen, it was as important as the exchanging of the funds.

The reason this thread got to me was because of a old friend of mine I had to watch go through the same thing because of age and health, Some of you know who Frank Mack is,( Frank built a track roadster that belongs to Bruce Meyer now and is useually in the Peterson Museum).

After Frank sold the roadster, He continued to work on cars into his 80's, But he always missed his roadster like a parent misses a child,
As time went on Frank could no longer work on cars, after his third heart attack he suffered a couple strokes,... He had to sell his place on randall and all the stuff he ac***ulated through the years.

Frank had a plan and a idea for everything he had in those buildings,
as Marie (Franks wife) was digging things out and asking "how much Frank?" His response was "I don't care" or "I don't know"
If someone asked what is it? or what were you going to do with it?
the light came on in his eyes and he would tell you with great detail.

As truck load after truck load of his dreams were loaded up and driven away, you could just see the pain in his eyes, Frank gave me a lot of stuff that he said "was just to valuable to sell", Not as in worth a lot of money, But was just way to important to him, The jig to build the teeth for his track roadster grill bars, The little fenders that he kept in the trunk of the roadster that each attached with one bolt and a location pin, the jig he built for the nerf bars,... and the Hammer he taught me Pick & File work with,... worth only a couple bucks to anyone else, but priceless to me and him.

As you told this story in the opening post, It brought back all the memories of that look on Franks face as his dreams were being sold off, If you don't have the true p***ion of Hot Rodding you can never understand the respect and admiration that is owed the others that had the p***ion and are forced to p*** there dreams along.

This is Frank and his aunt, 1953 in Traverse City, Mi.
