I came across a 401(I,believe) when I moved into my new shop at the highschool. The engine does not look to have ever been run. It was probably a donation from a dealership. I also have a 4 speed to go along with it but the bolt pattern is not quite the same. Idont know what it is for but it looks close. Needless to say I am looking to sell it because I have found a project for us to work on at school and would like to offset some of the cost. Best guess how much?
Is the bellhousing the same approx pattern, just a bit larger diam circle? If sao then your trans and bellhousing is for the 264/322 series, the 364/401/425 use a smaller diam pattern. I know that sounds strange, but the larger engines have a smaller pattern. The manual trans set-up for the larger engines are worth considerably more than the smaller engines. Since most of the big engines were hooked to automatics. Your best bet for selling it, if no one here is interested, would be to go on www.V8Buick.com and I am sure you could get attention for it there. MyY very ballpark figure not knowing the condition or other parts included would be $200-300 for engine and maybe $200 for the trans and bellhousing. More on either if you can prove they are more than just rebuildable cores.
The belhousing is not for a Buick nailhead. I think it may be Ford as from what I can see of the trans pattern looks like Ford, if not mopar. I agree with Zman, this should go to the Cl***ified section with a price.
Lighten up guys--the dude is asking about the value of something so he can get a fair price for it. If he knew what it was worth, it'd be in the cl***ifieds already. As for the trans, I believe that's a Mopar, not a Buick. Absolutely NOT a 264/322 bellhousing and trans. While the round general shape of it looks similar, it's definately a different trans. The Buick trans is a top cover, the shifter linkage is only two fingers, it's a 3-speed, the trans shown is a 4 speed. Additionally, that long tailshaft makes me believe it's Mopar. Now, do yourself a favor and track dow the casting numbers on that trans and bellhousing. And also count the number of splines on the input shaft. If it's a big block bellhousing and iron case 4speed (as I believe it is), you'll do your cl*** justice by earning some money for the project. Take a bunch of pics of the trans, bellhousing, casting numbers, input and output of the trans, and post them in a different post and see if someone can positively ID it for you. Also, I'm pretty sure the stops on that shifter mechanism identify it as a Hurst Compe***ion Plus shifter. Definately not OE. Good luck. -Brad
thanks for the info on the trans found this pic on the nameless auction site. looks to be a mopar 833. I will check the numbers in the morning. thanks again.
