found this bug gasser...have no clue of it's history....mounts are for small/big block chevy...auto trans...Dana rear axle....round tube front axle....has a home made grille shell inside that fits around an updated model A radiator. What do you guys think? fix/scrap it?

Sell it to someone unless you don't want to be in the chain of legal liability, which in that case I'd cut it/scrap it. Actually as it has late model taillights and appears to be a superbeetle with its rounded windshield(ok ok...misspent youth on the wrong cars, but I was po) so I'd wager no value and junk it...but...is it possible the chassis was used for something else and the body was just sat on top of it? In which case, it might have some value.

Just my humble opinion, I don't pretend to be an expert.

    Abandoned Super Beetle "Gasser" project.

A better body choice than some of the heavy
barges some people are passing of as "Gassers".

Does a V8 Beetle turn your crank ?
Do you lie awake at night dreaming of V8 VW drag cars ?

Cut the roof off, swap the taillights for something cool, paint it black and off it for $3000 as a rat.

The front wheels might be worth a little bit,
depending on the size, and bolt pattern.

What axle and spindles are on front ?

    That bug budy is mid-70's.

So unless it was rebuilt at some time using a later model body, I don't think is the real deal.

Do the other pieces look older?

i dont care what anyone says hell it could be fun. build a blower motor for it go full drag with it paint the fucker pink and bruise some egos. drag racing is supost to be about fun and going fast right?

  17. If the existing work looked good, I'd run it. Add about a foot in the front part of that frame. 383/727, stock eliminator cam (has about 260 dur @ .050; works w/ stock springs - idle like thunder!), big intake and a stall convertor. Go low buck/badass; early '70's style stuff.

And stay on the lookout for a '64-down body.

Hey Evil, what you seem to have stumbled upon is more than likely an old altered class ride. There has been a few bugs campained in the 70's but not many were without front ends...they at least kept the hoods on. I do rememeber a guy running a baby/light blue colored bug in northern michigan in the mid 70's. Any chance there is some blue under the yellow on the car? The one I'm remembering was called "Duh Bug". The guy said he got the name because it was really simple...when people would ask what the hell it was he would just reply...Duh, it's a bug!

I forget the guys real name, although I think his nickname was "Liquid Wrench" not sure if it was because he liked/used liquid wrench instead of wd40 or if he drank alot before/during his building of these rides!!! He was know for building scary, fast, out of the ordinary rides. If I remember right, the blue bug was run at Kaleva and M37 dragway in the mid to late 70's. It was a 1974 that had been hit in the front, he bought it out of a junkyard and put it together in 75-76.

It had been running an injected small block chevy originally, but the last I remember he had switched over to a big block chevy before selling it. Not sure who or where it went to then, but it surfaced in 1980 running rampant around the sand drag circuit! I seen it run an exhibition pass at a gravelrama offroad show in ohio. It was still blue, and had a blown smallblock chevy and huge paddle tires on the back. The car carried the front the full 300' distance of the sanddrag strip....it was awesome to say the least.

After that I have no idea as to who owned it or what it had been used for until around 1988 when I came across a v8 bug on the street in western michigan. That car was or is probably the one you found as it was yellow and black, but if I remember right it had the "baja bug" styled rear fenders and the big thing was a mustang II front suspension under it. It was running a 454/turbo 400 and some really wide circle track racing tires on the rear!!! That guy was called Julio...but he was a white guy so I'm assuming it was a nickname too!

He said he built the bug from an old sand car....he said it was just a frame/body when he started on it, the person he got it from pulled the entire engine/trans/front and rear axles from it then sold it to him. It still had the rollcage inside and was in primer. I'm not sure if the bug you have is the 74 altered bug(Duh Bug) that I remeber from back in the 70's, but it is a very good possability.

I say, if you like being different or dare to be different, go ahead and build it as you wish. Just because people on here do not like it because it is a bug, or ugly, or too new to be worthwhile, or whatever thier reason do not let that keep you from doing whatever it is you feel right for you!! I think that set up right with the right engine and stance, you could have a very unique and cool ride....and as was stated earlier, make that bitch run fast as hell then go out and embarass all of the others with the run of the mill anglias, henry j's, or regular coupes, or "real" gassers!!! THAT WOULD BE TOO COOL.

After all this is America, and for now you are free to choose how or what you build!!! Keep us posted...some of us like it!!! Cheers.

hit it with some lace paint and gold leaf letters. run a tunnel-rammed big block and some cragar SS wheels. i think 70's street freaks are on their way back! besides, if you dig it, build it. fuck anybody telling you what's cool. that thing would haul ass with even a stock 70's smog bib block in it, and going fast is what it's all about.

I agree this thing could be fast as hell...and how embarrassing to all the nay sayers when thier typical little hot rod gets it's ass whuupped by it!! I'm going to finish the build...hell I love it when people cannot stand something I've built or done, so I'll really dig this one! I have a pretty radical 335cid small block chevy, tunnel ram, 4spd, and probably run 4:10 - 4:30 gears....more than likely put it deep into the 9 second zone! Can you say SEE YA....I can. Here to a "too new", "fugly".... B/A Bug!! B/A is that for B/Altered or Bad Ass? Who cares I dig it!!!

The other me, I do believe this is the blue bug. Inside under the door panels and door jambs it is a light blue! There is also some evidence of crash damage on the front door posts, but most all of the original front is gone. All there is is a couple of inches of the top cowl and just the door post....the rest is formed sheelmetal. I am going to go ahead and drop a high-winding smallblock into it with a 4spd, and shoot for a B/A altered class. I that you for your input...if you have any pics, please email them to me at w_o_t_speedshop@yahoo.com Thanks.
