Why? If you know a better way to paint at that scale, I'd love to hear about it!

I've tried the grid method in the past, but it doesn't really work with the layered composition style that I'm working in now. I thought about doing the large graphic elements with silkscreens, like Andy Warhol, but I ultimately decided against it because I thought the image reproduction would be too perfect.

I learned a variation of the technique I use now when I was doing signpainting. After creating the sign image at a smaller scale, it was scaled up with the projector, and transferred to a paper template, then scored with one of those pounce wheel things, then the image was transferred on site using a pounce bag. this was the template that was used to paint the sign.

Just to clarify, I'm not anti-computer at all. (I compose these paintings in Photoshop, after all...) A computer is a tool, and like any tool, it can be used or abused. Also, as any artist will tell you, when you are under deadline, all bets are off, and you will use whatever it takes to finish the job!

Sweet work as always guys!! I always miss this place when I'm not here.

It's been a while for me as I've been putting together a new site/portfolio...

It's now up and running at http://www.misterpaterson.com

Got a rendering tutorial up now as a permanent feature, and heres one of my latest pieces. It's a combo of painting and rendering which was unusual for me. Basically it's a concept of a truck a guys building and rather than a computer rendering he asked if I could actually paint it, so here it is...

Well, not "hot rod" related... but the photo was dated 1966, does that count?

My dad's old Army & hot roddin' buddy, Gene Pellet and his Luscombe Silvaire. This is a little "thank you" gift for Gene.

Good stuff kids... I am impressed every week ;)

  20. Coop that big picture rocks.....growing up I was heavily influenced by the artwork of Andy Warhol, and Roy Litchtenstein, to which, I haven't really seen much that goes near, nor inspires me to pick up the brushes/pens again.....until now, again, thats really kick butt....

    Cheers,

    Drewfus

  21. Eye Bone, that's a crack up! well executed!

Joe Deertay, That looks unreal! Nice, nice, NICE!!!

Flyin' P we're on the same wave length again, we're both posting pictures of cars... (yours look real perty, tho)

Here I go; some pics from the scrap pile, starting with a bevy-o'-Chevy:

(...Oh, and may I just say a great big thank you to the Hatman, once again
for conecting me with the H.A.M.B. community? What a priveledge it is to
share space with such talent as you all. Thank you Ryan C. for this place and space!!!)

...now, the Chevys, sorry, no hot rods this week...

I'll never get a chance to finish this one so I'll present it in it's infancy

Ha ha You look like Kevin Smith, Hey Nice work, It's not my place to make suggestions to a Master as yourself....but wouldn't halftone shading have worked on the nipples a bit better. You know give it a "goosebumpy" texture:rolleyes:

killer show by everyone as usual.
those ed roth stencils are nuts!

the quality/variety of stuff that shows up on here always makes me too chickenshit to post my stuff up.
thought id start posting junk up from now on though....
(im a "self-unemployed" graphic designer, but only get the chance to do cool car shit every now + then)

finished up poster art this week for the local annual show here...
(that happens to be my dads 50caddy he's debuting there after 9yrs in the build.:)
will post up some pics soon, looks killer - chopped, bigblock etc...)

Great show guys! Friday art show is one of things I always look forward too. Wish I had kept up with my art after school so I could contribute too - maybe someday.

Coop, I wish I was a rich man so I could fill up the small walls in my little house with your big paintings.

Danagamer - I'd like to see the rest of that short

Guiseart & Joe deertay - Great stuff there!

Palepainter - Great stuff, reminds me of all the Heavy Metals I have stashed in a box somewhere.

Something old and something new from me. The Jade Grenade and Kat Von D. The second was done specifically for the Calgary Tattoo And Art Festival. I was lucky enough to meet her and have her sign it.
