Im building a traditional style 23 t. I was wondering what be a good engine for the car. I would like a small block. But as you know everybody and their brother has one.
if you would like a small block then use one with some old dress up make like like a 283 or show your ball just put what you want
Do you have a certain time period as to the cars "build era" you want to stick to? I personally wouldn't mind getting a 241 hemi....I don't have a car to put it in...But hopefully will be starting a build, this time, next year. When I get past the planning and small parts phase, etc. I think I'm shooting for around a 1954-1955 build era. You are the only one that has to like it. What do you want to put in it?
i want a 50's to early 60's look im fine with a small block i just forgot i already have a weinand intake for a sbc is a 307 a good motor?
Sounds like you already know what you want. I woulda said a flathead, But i know that would get everyones pantys in a wad
Yeah, Leave it in the back yard !! If ya really gotta have a SBC for a '60 Build, go 283 or 327 with a 4spd and be someone !!! Or you could be gay & join the 700 club ! For the slow folks.. 350 Chev + 350 Turbo = 700 Club
If you have a 307 laying around throw it in. but I wouldn't waste my time with spending money on one rebuilding it when you can get 43 more cubes for the same money. a built 283 would be sweet.
Personally I don't see any problem with running a Chevy if you have one or access to one for cheap. My issue withthem is when they have that cheap lookin chrome dress up kit put on them.......pardon me while I vomit...... If you do a sbc, take the time to research what was done for the period you are looking at. In reality any engine you have access to can be cool if done with a little taste. Like it or not the 350 is common as dirt and when dressed right you can't tell it's not a 283 or 327. Common = cheap. Cheap = good. Buld what you want. You can always swap a different engine/tranny in it later if you want.
Use it. No more questions needed. If you got it and like it, use it. You don't need anyone's approval if it's what you want.
Why does anyone really care what someone else chooses to run in THEIR car? Related to that.....why does anyone ask someone else what they think they should run in their car? I'm a Ford guy, but I say run that 283. He said he had a 283. Just because you have a hard on against sbc's because they are too 'belly button' or some other BS rational you have pieced together, does not mean it isn't a viable and perfectly good choice for someone to put in their car. Just means you won't run one.
Any chev small block would be good,as long as its within your budget. You can always dress a new motor up to look "Old Style" and Traditional. 283,305,307,327,or 350 any one would be a good choice,as long as you end up with the look you want. Just my 2 cents.
I'd like to see somebody do a banger engine with a Riley Two-Port OHV conversion. That would be cooler than ice. Riley Two-Ports are being reproduced now, whole setups for around 3K. May sound pricey, until you consider what a new Ardun setup costs. You'd be the only kid on the block to have one, that's for sure. Hud
even though a 350 looks, at least when dressed right, externally just like a 283, it makes total sense to locate one, rebuild its tired, overbored ass, and spend more $$$ to have 67 less cubic inches... ummm...o.k... Small block chevy's are just fine...I have one, it was not my first choice, but...as I said...I have one, because I HAD one. It has the ever popular turbo 350 attached to its ass as well...I have a 392, but, it has to be built, so...for now...I'm runnin' what I got that runs... I like a Ford in my 60's Ford's, and 50's, but...A small block Ford don't look right to me in a 30's hot rod, either... yep...I'm a "gay" automatic guy, too...but, I got a manual valve body... I bet I can shift faster than you! ( though the next car will be toploaded...fer sure!) then I'll hafta shift slow, like the rest of you "3 pedals" guy's... muhahahahaha....
Consider an aluminum 215 inch V8 from a Buick or Olds F-85. They scream, they look good and in a T bucket I bet they would get over 30 mpg. A T-10 4 speed fits right in since it was a factory option and parts are available since Buick sold the same engine for use in all Land Rovers. Some guy who advertises in Rod & Custom specializes in them from parts to complete engines.
