I like 60's Mopars, especially the '64 Polara.

Polara's rock! My brother had a white 4 door a couple of years ago with the old-style 318. I drove it a lot while my daily was in the shop. It was so quiet that if I left it running and went inside that I would try to start it when I got back in the car. Just like Radar used to do with the jeep on MASH. I wish I had bought it when ny bro sold it.

no offense meant here, but i dont see that car as a "traditional hot rod".....anymore than a 64 golf cart would be,,,,,,,,,,that being said i understand some here are "into" that type of car........i just dont think it fits here

It gets my vote but I'm partial to mid-sixties machinery (I have a '67). I thought the cut-off year was '63 but maybe that's for the Kontinentals only.

The 'traditional hotrods' term get's thrown around way too much on this board as a means to justify trying to exile someone or their ride, usually just because someone doesn't like it. If 64' is the cut off that Ryan established for the site then shouldn't those members be just as welcomed as those with 32's?

Awesome car! Would make a cool gasser or a cool mild kustom or daily driver. Have a ball with it.
I drove a '64 Dodge staff car when I was in the Army along with '63 Plymouth's and '63 Fairlanes.

I had 2 of them once........... always liked them. Funny, both were 2 door hardtops, but one had a ridged roof.
Stuff a 440 in that thing and have fun!

Had a beautiful 64 Polara two door....that is until a drunk tearing through the neighborhood plowed into the rear of it with his Ford 4wd shoving it 40 feet into a light pole.
I'm still looking for another one.

hey screw all this. i have had a '63 ply for 15 yrs and have had more offers to buy it than any car i have ever owned. i don't think of it as a traditional hotrod as they are are muscle cars and are what actually killed the tradional hot rod 'A'S' and 'T'S' OF THE '60's i will have mine until i die and my wife can sell it then. rules are rules though, and if '64 is the cut off year then it is in, as far as i am concerned.

    It's a four door :p

Sell it and use the money to build a nice traditional hot rod.

Weekend's worth of work is all it needs. Rub it out & wax. Paint the wheels black & run inchwalls or blackwalls with the poverty caps. Dual pipes with some 22'' glasspacks & 2'' tailpipes. Verify the front end is tight, as lower ball joints & idler arm are usually gone by 50,000 miles. Wind the torsion bars down 'til it touchs the rubber stops, then saw the stops off to 1" high. Hopefully, the rear springs are weak enough to have sagged a few inches, if not, de-arch them. Gas shocks are a must. Then get under the hood, underneath the car, & all over the interior & tighten everything you can get to - these cars were pretty "loose" quality control wise.
Engines tend to throw out the first qt. of oil if filled to the "Full" mark.
That'll be one of the best cars you'll ever own ...

It's a 4 door. Not a bad looking car but it's a 4 door. Sorry but IMHO a 4 door will never be a tradional custom or a traditional drag car. Back when I was young the only ones fixing up a 4 door was the wanna be's with Mamma's hand me down, the real car guys would only deal with 2 door hardtops or sedans. Geez, what happened. Even Chrysler is trying to pass off 4 doors as a "Cool musle cars" these day. If you like it, buy it and drive the wheels off it. I wouldn't sink a lot of cash into it thou trying to make it something it will never be.

  25. Oh for fucks sake...not the "4 door stigma" again. I could point out all of the "acceptable" more-door models, but I think that's been done almost as much as bitching about 4 doors has.

Second...I wish people would quit confusing rods with customs.

Having said that...if you dig it...buy it. Weird rides are cool. The fact that it's a hard top really helps the over-all looks. More often than not, I'd rather have a 4 door hard top than a 2 door sedan. Shave the handles. Drop it and throw some cool 60's style wheels on it. Maybe some pinner whites or redlines.

Have fun and don't worry about who digs your ride...unless THEY wanna chip in some cash to help you buy something else.

  26. No, not that one. It's a mostly stock four door.

    Sam.

I always thought the HAMD is about Spreading the Gospel of Hot Rodding and Kustoms to Hoodlums Worldwide, and as far as your car she got great potential, she will make a cool Kustum. Keep us posted on her progress.
