What is everyone's thoughts on this? I know the whole steel aspect is a lot of what this is all about, but just wondered about everyones thoughts on this. I have seen a few cars that have a slight channel, if none at all that I REALLY like....but finding that body is a hard thing to do at times.

I know patience is a virtue, and it pays off to wait, but I just want to know what you guys think?

The rest of what it's about is not caring what other people think.

I guess I had that coming....I should mention I really don't care, just wanting opinions from others. I don't see myself going gl***, but it's just a question, and yes I know....your's was "just an answer"

And it wasn't intended to be a smart-*** one...I'm saying "if you like it, do it". I would get a gl*** car in a minute if the opportunity presented itself.

Well I dont know if this has anything to do with gl*** bodies being traditional, but Fibergl*** has been around sense the 60's,am I wrong and I have a roadster body that was made in the early mid 70's,and my car is traditional,so I'm going to say yes,its traditional.

My car is gl***, its a 37 Chevy convert. If anyone doesn't like it please start a $$ fund for me since a steel one goes for more $$ than I'll ever make, so its a good compromise for me.

Your mileage may vary, and I think fibergl*** cars are great for some people, but not me. That's not what I wanted.

I like it to be original steel, even if they are rough, they have a feeling in them I don't get from repro parts.

Hell, if I could afford a 'gl*** body that didn't look like **** I'd buy one. The real trick is finding one that looks decent for cheap. You can still find good steel bodies for equal money as a good 'gl*** body. Most of the more inexpensive 'gl*** bodies I have seen need quite a bit of work to look good.

I agree 400%. If I were to get a gl*** body, it would DEFINATELY get painted fully. Not primer, not anything but a painted and cleared finish.

  18. I think a gl*** car is a good way to get in a hotrod easier for some of us...
,It makes up for the lack of real tin and at least it eliminates the hole patching/and some tool requirements, aspect- for an entry level rodder.....Plus they look fine.

An interesting thought considering the terrible "quality" of many of the steel bodies being used for cars today.

I heard a real cool response when someone starts harping on your car because it's gl*** or steel. Tell them they are right, then ask them to hold on while you find their check to return to them. When they ask what check, tell them: "Well, hell. I guess I was building it for YOU and it's not what YOU wanted. I need to give YOUR money back."

As hard as it is to build a nice Hot Rod, what it's made of and what others think should be the least of your worries. Now what was it I was told about how they did it back in the day? Oh yea, they did good with what they had. Seems simple enough to me.

If gl*** is what your wallet or talents can afford then go for it.
If some bonehead has trouble with that, ask them if they will help you find a steel body and bring it up to THEIR standards for free.
It will shut em up in a hurry.
The idea of our hobby is to have fun with out breaking the bank.

Though I wanted a Model A coupe hotrod, I ended up with a steel pickup hotrod project, as it was cheaper than a gl*** project.
It was a matter that if I wanted a fenderless hotrod I was going to have to comprimise. Will I be happy with it when I'm done - You betcha and I still able to help my daughter get through college - a win win for both of us.

  25. I have one of each...there are plusses and minuses to both.

Just think - is one less fun to drive than another? Does one kind really get any less stares and thumbs up? Not really, so don't get hung up on it.

gl*** bodies in europe are cheaper than in the U.S. I paid around $800 for my 27. That´s why I did it ! I´d rather have steel, thou. But I build it as authentic 40´s style as I can.
26/27 Model T roadster bodies are VERY HARD to get here in europe !
Maybe I´ll get a real one from the states someday but right now it´s o.k. for me.

I have no problem with gl***. The material doesn't matter, its what you do with it.

i dont see how the material being used has to do with the look of the end product, you can basiaclly use what you like, be it steel or gl*** , its what you do with it , i know down here theres not a whole lot of steel laying around just waiting to be found, gl*** is the way to go when steel is scarce, and lets face it who really gives a **** except for a few so called traditionalists, you will still be grinnin whatever your in:D :D

Well, if you'd remove the fire ant mound before driving it, you wouldn't have that feeling...

    :p :D

As for me, I'll take gl*** or steel. It makes no difference unless you care what someone else thinks. If seen some really nice, tradional '32 roadsters and 3 window coupes. If I get the Studebaker bug out of my system, I'd probably be looking at a 'gl*** roadster pick-up.
