Trying to find a radiator that fits my application. A scirocco drag racing radiator is roughly 22" X 13". Woundering if it can keep my 327 cool, guy at Summit said it would do the job fine, but he is also a salesman. Anybody tried one, or is the best method still to have a custom made radiator?

The 13" measure gives me a little pause. I ran a 60's small ford (falcon) radiator in the A shell, for all including a 360" SBC w/no problems.

You see them alot at the dragstrips........you can scrounge around and find a stock vw fan and shroud assm. thermo-time switch for it too.........I don't know if they work on the street though.

Used one on a pro street car I had .......not much cooling area though. Ended up shit canning for a griffen all aluminum unit.....Lots of guys used them on the drag strip but that was 1/4 mile at a time.

If your running any HP motor at all you'll have cooling issues.....really! I'd hesitate depending on one for a daily driver.

Ran one on a race car many years ago.Aluminum core, plastic tanks.
    Nice and light.

Ran warm, never overheated;2 liter hart motor only had around 300hp,and didn't get stuck in traffic.

Why are you beating around the bush about what you are trying to do here?
Define mo-betta what "my application" and what the actual go/no-go dimension requirements of "fits" are and maybe you can get some help here.

    A radiator is a radiator. A Summit radiator isn't a Scirocco radiator.
It's just one that will fit in a Scirocco.
An original radiator out of an actual Scirocco is probably plugged up and leaky POS.
We all know that a first gen "Mustang" size radiator will fit in a lot of "hotrod" applications and is probably cheaper than a "Scirocco" size radiator.

So, what are your requirements besides having the bottom tank neck on the right?

I ran one in my vett when I took it off the track. It ran very warm! These guys make some small ones at a reasonable price. http://www.northernfactory.com/

Thanks for all of the reponses. With a 28-29 A radiator shell channeled down to line up with the top of my cowl. I have from the top of my crossmember to the top center of my shell roughly 19" to work with. In the Summit catalog they list a scirocco radiator for around $250 which I figure would be maybe a third of a custom Walker. Should I be cheap or go for something better?

HAve one in my rail with a crate motor. It is fine for the track and nothing more, not enough capacity to stay cool on the street. Spend the money and do it right.

  11. I made the mistake of building my frame before I got a radiator, now I'm in the same boat.
