What year did the Indy or American kidney bean mags come out?

 

I believe it was the 2002 model year

It sounds like you're talking about American's copies of the aluminum Ansen Sprint, which was inspired by the magnesium Halibrand Sprint.

If you look at the ads in hot rod magazines from the mid to late Sixties, you can track down when American's aluminum slots were released.
