I know people have talked about this before, but I thought I'd start another thread on it. Trying to get motivated to start putting together a 32 out of what most people would call junk! Over the past couple of years I've started picking up a lot of odds and ends to build a 32, last year I picked up the drivers side half of a 32 Fordor and I just now bought the drivers and passengers quarters for a 32 tudor sedan. Have many of you out there built 32's out of piles of parts?

I haven't done a 32 yet, but have peiced together a couple of "A" coupes. They each have parts from about 7 different bodies. I've a small collection of '32 stuff that I hopefully can do the same with. My brother has been collecting chunks of '32 roadsters over the past 20 years and probably has enough to actually do one now, if he could ever find the time.

Trying to do one right now. This morning I was ready to cut it into tiny pieces with the plasma. Bad thing about old hotrod 32 "leavin's" is that it has been tweaked by too many owners for too many decades.

Edit: SkidmarkJunkies link above : That "Chicken Salad 32" is one of the most impressive saves I have seen, maybe mine is fixable

Holy cow, that 32 Jim Sibley threw together came out nice! Now that's good motivation!

    Not a 32, but I've pieced together a 29 A coupe with 13 cars contributing panels to it. Its not perfect - but I don't give a rat's fundamental oriffice ;)

I dont have a before pic, but every one told me it wasnt good enough for parts. the model A was even worse. Like the Sibley 32. It isnt just a corny drive inn shot, on the way to Austin in OKC in a very breif dry spell.

Here it is after a few patch panels have been hammer welded in. It is in bare metal after being recently sandblasted.

Cool idea, I'd like to do it "One Red Paperclip" style, just trading whatever Ford parts I have to get enough stuff to build a '29 A on deuce framerails.

  12. If you have the skills, it shouldn't be a big deal. I like to see a car that's really been pieced back together from nothing - to some guys that concept is so alien it's like you asked them to flap their arms and fly to the moon.

Anybody can buy a Brookville, it takes a real man to start with a pile!

Might be kinda cool to have two doors on one side and one on the other. ;)

I've done both. If your time is worth anything, A Brookville can be a bargain.

It is dependent on which part of the hobby you like better...the building or the driving. Personally, I lke the building and parts hunting better, but I know plenty of folks that like the driving better. If I liked the driving better, I'd just sell all my piles of parts and buy one already built.

I've given a lot of thought to building a '32 from parts. But, I'm too invested in T parts already. I have built two T's from the parts pile, and have enough for maybe two more still in the pile.

    I am taking parts donations.

I will accept any make/model/year and after I am done I promise to let you see a picture of it.

    ;)

Seriously - anyone have some free stuff? I need parts!

I have built 3 32 5 windows out of parts of bodies. 2 have been sold keeping one for myself. I sold just dug one of the quarter panels for his coupe. Neat to see cars put together from other peoples junk. I am now putting together my original 32 roadster body but using brookville quarter panels.

Does this count? I am currently building a tudor from tudor and fordor parts plus a few '31 slantwindshield and '33 fordor parts to make the right contours.

I'm glad to see it can be done. Up on the loft of my shop is a pile that hopefully will be a '32 roadster "some day". Brookville assured me that it could be done when I left their plant with the pickup filled with stampings.  :D
When they came out with the '32 roadster I ordered a body. They were about two years behind at that time so I ordered one in pieces hoping to get one together faster. Well, the assembled body I ordered got finished and I picked it up as the one in pieces still was a pile of parts. The assembled one sat in the corner of the shop for a couple of years waiting for me to get to it. A friend needed a body and could't wait so I sold him the assembled one. So, here we are, one "kit" '32 roadster still waiting patiently. At least I won't have a wait when I do get time, I'm just not sure if THAT will ever happen.:)

    Too much pandering, right?

    Okay I get it.

Seriously though, I like the idea that you could gather enough junk to build a car.

First thing I would have to do is move to a lot that's big enough to hold more than one fender....

Second would be get a divorce - 'cause my wife would KILL me.

    ...I do want a hot-rod - I don't want a divorce.

Wow, there's a lot of nice examples of scratch built 32's here! Definitely making my pile of parts look more and more like a car! Now, I just have to find a cowl...and some doors... :D

It's still a pile, but I'm still learnin' and workin'....

I've posted pics of this on here before but a good example. I built this Vic body from a Tudor cowl/ header, door frames and misc window frame parts. The rest I built on a borrowed english wheel and a shot bag. My next one I'm gonna skip the original stuff and try to fab the whole thing, I know it won't be a gennie 32 but I just want to see if I can pull it off.
