i've been planning to build a dragster along the same pattern as the bomb factory dragster.but i need help with the wheel base, frame and cage measurements.also where to find the center steering box i have found a couple on e-bay out of sprint cars wondering if they will work.
first off.....you would need to determine what style car you want to build....check in books and websites for similair cars and info....myself i'm into the mid to late 60's style fiats and such....shorter wheelbase cars ...think they were usually in the 100" or less ....figure a 32 is 106 or so...think a model a is 103 ish....so go off that as well...maybe up to 110 or so would still have a cool look with out looking too new or modern....as for the cage ...alot of that would be a driver size issue....no sense building a narrow car if you 6'4 and 250....make it fit the driver.....as for the steering box....might check into a spe or mark williams or s&w ....keep it safe ...and keep it simple....lord knows there are already enough trick electronic cars out there...... brandon
brandon thanks for the info.i will probably go with a t model pu body cause i have one handy.as for my size i'm a little over six foot about 270 so i'll need some room.where would the drivers seat need to be'i've seen photos showing the bottom of the seat to be about six to eight inches in front of the pinion on the hogs head.
With a p***enger car body (like the model t pick up you plan on using) you can get away with alot of modern safety stuff and it not look bad. Because it is inside the body. Do a cool old school paint job. Just look at ALOT of pics and try to make your car look as close to that as possible. Then run the hell out of it.
I layed ours out at 104" because my Model A was 104" and I figured "Hell, it goes straight at 120+... The BFD has gone 130 in the 1/4... with the injected 283... and feels like you are on rails due to the 15+ degrees caster. Send me a PM and I'll give ya my phone number... feel free to call me up and we can chat about that ya wanna do! But basically, get an NHRA rulebook... build it so you fit... and have fun! Sam.
