i replaced my rochester 4 jet with a holley 4160 600 cfm and have been trying to hook up the throtle linkage and kickdown to the hydra-matic.(1955 324ci.) not having much luck in doing so when i drive the car and punch the gas it feels like it drops into neutral and revs up. whats the trick to hooking the holley to the hydra-matic? any help is greatly appreciated.
you're gonna hafta make a linkage that attaches to the Holley so the throttle valve (what most people call the "kickdown") or TV linkage is all the way back at idle (this lets off the line pressure so your car doesn't "creep" when you stop in gear),but is also pulled all the way forward at full throttle, this increases the line pressure so the clutch plates don't burn up. you obviously don't have enough line pressure,DO NOT drive your car until you have a new linkage fabricated.
I replaced the carb on my '55 olds and setting up the kickdown was the trickiest ****ing part, it took me the better part of two months to get the right combination of shifts. Follow yorgatrons advise, he knows what hes talking about, and take your time adjusting the kickdown back and forth to get ur perfect shift combinations. Good Luck.
