I went there about 10 years ago and it was pretty cool. Last year we drove through the town on friday hoping to see some of the rides that would be competing, but all we saw were a lot of people trying to sell their junk. I know the meet is on sat. and sun. but the town looked like one giant garage sale.

I'll be there, probably Saturday. You should drive south about 35-45 minutes and work on my car on Sunday.

I've been going for the past 4 years. Going up some time friday. Not sure which model A we will be in. Have a guy coming to look at the blue 30 roadster, so might be in 29 blindback. As far as yard sales, they are all over town.

    Question for you Newport Experts?

Is it better to go on Saturday or Sunday?

    How is the swap meet?

    How about the auction?

Any info on when stuff starts?

Saturday is time trials and parctice. It isn't a swap meet, few have car parts, mostly yard sales. Some good cars, some not so good. Don't expect to see alot for sale at the auction.

Dustin is thrashing this week to get his air ride setup on his '55 Desoto so he can take it and race the Hill. This year will be his 4th consecutive year. He may not get it completed and roadworthy until Friday.

Susie and I will probably leave Thursday night. Not sure right now as I have to go to STL tomorrow and don't get back until Thursday.

We will be camping in the teardrop trailer area in the alley behind the Lions Club that GMC Bubba reserves every year.

Look for us, we will either be in a flatblack '57 Chevy truck, a flat copper '51 Merc or the '29 roadster El Tiki.

The now annual BigWheel race down the Hill will still be at 12 midnight Saturday night. If you have never seen adults go 40+mph on plastic wheeled kids Big Wheels it is quite the site.

I'll be there about all weekend with my black 48 Chevy pickup. I only live about 5 miles away so if anyone has any questions about the area just let me know. I'm new on here so I don't know if it's cool to post your phone number or not. I have been going to Newport basically my whole life and have heard of the legendary Big Wheel races but have never seen them. Adults + Childs vehicle + Alcohol, should be a good show.

Goes without saying that we'll be there. Haven't missed one in more years than I can remember. We'll be there in the ol Krylon Special.

We have Bubbas Garage behind the starting line stand on the corner. This is my 21st year servicing the cars that run the hill.
Stop by and get a free moonpie and a coke and maybe even pick up our latest Bubbas Hot Rod Shop t shirt.
We also sell bubbas hot sauce and Crazy Bubbas Lizzard parts ...
We also sell some ignition parts for flathead fords etc.
The newest car on the hill is a 1943 ( except some special discontinued makes)
The auction is fair a friend of mine has a 54 Desoto with hemi with a 2500 reserve etc ??:) :)

A couple pics i found from years past.
The white T is my 23 Speedster that has ran the hill for four years. The pic of it going up the hill shows the height and steepness of the hill.
A stock model T will not go up the hill in high gear. The big wheel pic shows the effects of a stock big wheel coming down the hill with a grown up on it ! It goes so fast it melts the wheels off the axle. Now they run metal frames , free wheeling front hubs, bearings in the rear wheeels and full motor cycle gear ( helments and leathers).
New port is the largest event like this in Indiana, 100,000 people in three days.
If you like cars and havent had fun in Newport you need to come and hang out with us, we have got it figured out........

The simple t project car is back at the shop, still needs some attention etc. I have been on a four day tour with the white T and had it with me on the bus. Its actually the car i have ran Newport with in the past.
With next weekend ( after this one) being the Hundred car show and the following wekend being a record attempt at Maxton with our 49 Truck. Time is running out, however the simple t is still looking good but needs some final tweaking for a trip.:) :)

She was banged up pretty good. She broke her left collar bone and right leg below her knee and that's all I know as of right now. :(

That is horrible, I hate to hear it.

I hope she makes a speedy recovery and gets back to normal soon.
