Starter wiring question (ignition feedback?)

I got a problem that's been kicking my *** lately.
    Here's the facts:

'56 Buick (no problems w/ "Buick auto-start" switch)
    IMI Hi-torque mini-starter
Just switched over from a gen. to a 1-wire alternator
All my switches, relays and components are good
    Not sure about my wiring

The starter cranks as soon as I turn the ignition switch to "on." I've got my yellow (+ coil) wire jumped into the wire leading to the starter solenoid ("s" terminal).
This is the same way I had the starter wired before I switched to an alternator. And, all other wires (except for those which led to the voltage regulator) are hooked up the same as before. But, now it seems like the 12v I get from the coil when I turn the ignition switch on, is powering up my starter.

    Any ideas?

S means start, you want to connect the coil wire to the R for resistor terminal on the starter.

Tried that and I blew the 30a fuse on my 12v constant.

My starter doesn't have S or R terminals. It's an IMI Hi-torque mini-starter. It has one large post to which I have the battery connected. Right next to the post is a spade connection (which I'm pretty sure is equivalent to the "S" terminal) where I have the black ignition start wire connected. There's also another post (to which no external wire is connected) on the solenoid of the starter with a large gauge wire covered by a boot that leads to the starter motor. I have the yellow coil wire jumped into the black 10ga start wire (which I've been told by mechanics is a kosher set up on two-wire starters). AND, this is the same way I had it wired BEFORE I installed the alternator, and it worked just fine.
