hey guys, i'm looking for some advice on my induction setup. I've got a 283 bored 30 over with ~8:1 comp, roller rockers and a mild RV type cam. right now I've got a tripower setup for it running 3 97's and straight linkage. as much as I like my tripower it is getting way too common(insert joke about my free rebuilt small block chevy here ) I would like to pick up an old 4x2 manifold and another carb. anyone think that would be too much for the little 283?? ~600cfm? depending on the manifold I think I would have to run them straight up as well right??
Probably too much carb, but its done all the time. Remember .. for both your car and yourself... "Its better to look good than to feel good "
oh, I also forgot to add it's got camel hump heads with 2.02 valves and mild port work. (this was a 9-10krpm drag motor before I got it)
Did you replace the pistons which is why it's 8-1 now? I take it your tri-power was 1 to 1 instead of progressive linkage. With 4 97's, I think it would be fine. .02 If your looking for "WOW" factor, check out www.hotrodcarbs.com and their tri-power tunnel ram.
it was originally built with the intention of adding a blower so they put in 8:1 pistons. I don't want WOW factor. I just want a nice looking but not run of the mill induction setup. I really like the looks of man-a-fre's and the like. don't like the OFFY intakes at all though. I think an early vette injection manifold would be really cool converted to 4x2's, anyone got one cheap??
4 97's = 600 cfm.....if ran progressive, I think it'd be fine. No different than a 600 Edelbrock or Holley..... The linkage takes TIME.....I'm finding this out....but I'm close to getting it. I'm currently doing this, only it's on a @ 375 hp 350.......
sinister, i'm not real keen on converting two of the carbs to progressive units with the correct butterflies and no idle circuits.
I was under the impression that butterflies needed to be swapped out and idles circuits should be closed off on the secondaries?
I thought that was on the Rochesters? although mine are working pretty well, with idle circuits functional...???
I'll be running 3x2's on a mildly cammed 283 in my 27 T RPU. I've got a GM 5 speed behind it, and early ram horn exhaust manifolds. With a 3:73 gear, I should get some decent gas mileage out of it too. Good Luck in whatever you decide to do!
Well you could.....but I just lightly filed the throttle blades to keep them from sticking and will be using the idle circuits....... 97's are such a simple carb, they don't require the mods like 2GC's or 94's.... We'll see......I'll be tuning mine in a week or so.
I'm running 4 97's on a 283 with a duntov 30/30 cam with power pack heads 1.94/1.50's with 10.5 to 1 comp. Just getting the bugs worked out now. Not bad so far just take your time with the linkage set up. I've tried it straight up and now just setting it up for progressive to see which one works better. I'll keep ya posted..............
