    This is a great post.

I always love seeing a dash or pedal layout picture on a quality hot rod. This is one of the most "custom or personal" parts of a hot rod since it was typically built for someones particular size and position in the car. Always interested is seeing the relationship of the steering column, pedals, shifter and seats in a quality build.

BSB is a great example of workmanship, but when compared to early racecars and early sports cars, the thing that BSB lacks is purposefulness. In those other cars there's a philosophy of "Form follows function".

In an airplane, a throttle quadrant looks the way it does because of what it does. When you transpose that into a car, no matter how skillfully, it looks superfluous because the original function is lost. In an old Indy car, everything there is designed and placed because is had to be. They look the way they do because of what they do. Its minimalism at its finest. Thats why you won't find skull head shift knobs on a three foot lever in a Jag XK or Bugatti. It doesn't work well in a racing machine.

BSB, OTOH, was built to achieve a look, not a purpose. For example, on an aircraft those overhead windows are there to provide much needed visibility (gotta watch out for bogeys). On BSB, its purely styling. Same with the rivets. On some machines its part of the required construction. On BSB, pure styling exercise to achieve a look. But I have to admit, its a nice look. I really do admire it, but for far different reasons than I admire those other cars. Totally different genre.

Where's 3w Larry when you need him? The interior in his car is true art.

My interior.....just the bare essentials, Tach, oil, water, and a newer volt gauge hidden under dash, a light switch, turn switch, and a "glove" box between seats....
