    Ah, rubber of death.
If you're running bias they look okay but will burn off in a matter of time.
If you try to mount them on radials, they look like s**t and wount stay on until you get home.
Sad to say, if you want white walls... buy em, (grind them if you have a set with raised with letters) or go econo and paint em ( depending on your budget, time and look you want).

Port a walls look best hanging on a wall or on someone elses car.

  4. Yup, they look like hell and pop off. I drove them around the block......then ordered whitewall tires.

I had a set on my '60 Fury that lasted about 2K miles until one flew apart. I definitely won't be getting any more.

Bugman has a great tech on how to grind a set out of RWL tires, I've also had good luck painting WWW's on with Snow Seal.

Yup, roof sealer. Check out this thread for some pics

It's not really a tech but it's a simple process. I've done Krylon too but I think the Snow Seal is the way to go, much more flexible.

The key is REALLY cleaning the tires with laquer thinner before you put the S-S on. My tires on the '55 still look good but they got a bit brown around the edges where I should have spent more time cleaning.

Sanding the lettering off of the tires helps the look too. Depends on how much time you want to invest.

Are they still making those damn things? They didn't work worth **** back in the day. Why they would be any better now is beside me.It always gave you something to laugh at when you p***ed a guy w/them and they were flapping like a loose rubber...Ole Pork

Had some on the ladies car and when she went down the freeway she said it looked like a UFO when one came of. I took the rest off and made a visit to Coker.

I know Maiki has had some on his EK for a few years and had no problems. I've had some put on my pontiac recently cause I cant afford the real thing. I think their alright although my tyres arent tall enough.

My set cost me about $100 and 60 to have em fitted. A set of new wide whitewalls would cost around $1,300.

Just watch out for gutters whichever way you decide on.

Here's something no one thinks of when talking about port-o-walls: even if they look good standing still, the damn things flap in the wind when you're going down the road, which looks retarded AND makes p***ing motorists think your tires are coming apart. P***.

Not to be a smart*** or anything, but my tub of snow seal cost $11 and has enough to do probably 200 tires. Plus, they don't flop around in the wind when you're driving.

Bugman's sidewall grinding method is also excellent if you're starting with raised white letter or skinny whitewall tires. They're probably easier to keep clean that way.

A new set of Cokers would be the best, but if you're on a tight budget, there are better methods of WWW'ing a tire than Porta's.

I dont think I'll be grinding into the side of a tyre any time soon but how did the snow seal go on?? You just tape up a circle and paint it on? And how does it go when your cleaning your car/tyres???

I didn't tape off my tires, I put the snow seal on with a paint brush and just followed the line from the narrow white wall stripe as I went around. If you color outside the lines a bit, you can go back with a folded-over sandpaper and clean up the edge. It takes at least 3 coats to get good coverage.

You can wash your tires when you wash the car just fine, but I wouldn't be scrubbing on them with SOS or anything.

I've ran several sets and always had good luck as long as they were the ATLAS brand they are more rigid and cupped to stay on. Another very important thing about them is the installation of them, they are easy to get wrong. I paid an old tire shop to do it the first time and paid close attention. I got very good at it. The biggest problem is people are not patient with them. If you get them do not buy them used, buy ATLAS and PM me and I will try and talk you thru it. You can't beat real WWW But these aren't a bad way to go.. IMO. Here's a set I install on my Notch. Rich

They're on the 57 PLYM. Haven't come off yet! They are new atlas brand. On radials, good tall 75 series tires!

Yeah I've heard Atlas are the way to go. The set I got is locally made over here though so I thought I'd try/support them first.
