The Vigilante I am planning a project along the lines of some of the Willys P/U's in the other thread and I have to be different. I have a 327 mated to a TH400, but it is a 4wd transmission. Should be an easy tailshaft swap, but who knows with anything jeep, or pre jeep. I have a 4bbl intake. it was hard enough to find but is there anything else that doesnt have to be custom made. I know it was used in a few marine apps so there might actually be some speed parts out there. I would really like a multicarb intake, but have never seen one. Yes, I am sure it is a Rambler/Hudson/AMC engine mated to a th400 with an oddball bellhousing. I wonder if there is a 4speed that would bolt up instead.
Some guys are using adapters like Vintage speed sells to put 2 or 3 carbs on a 4 bbl intake. You could probably weld one up from scrap. I think there was a guy from Austrailia selling some nice looking cast ones too. My limited AMC experiance was with a 64 American wagon with a flat head six. So I don't know much about their V8's. But didn't International Harvester use some of their engines? Good Luck.
OK , I finally got my search terms right and found this thread. Seems like a good oddball to go in a oddball hotrod truck. I just gotta learn more about the dual carter 3559 manifold. Even though I have a 4 bbl manifold, that 2x2 looks cool, I wonder if it is marine only http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=135927 edit I also noticed that the marine engines are listed at 9.5 to 1 comp while the AMC/Rambler stats are 8 to 1. Marine heads? hmmmmm
Dammit, never tell the guy that is giving you a project what you are gonna do with it UNTILL you have picked up the truck. He wont give it to me unless it is going to be a full restoration back to original 4x4. Oh well, off to look at the 53 GMC and the 59 Caddy.
