I have a "I think" 170, 6 in my 61 econoline. I just replaced the vac*** advance. Appearently on these engines, a loop of steel line was used on the vac*** line from the distributor to keep gas from blowing through the carb. My motor didnt have one so I figured I would replace it. Not sure how this thing should be positioned. I am ***uming the loop should run verticle, with the distributor. Any suggestions?
huh? keep gas from blowing through the carb? never heard of such a thing. what's doing the blowing? who told you this? i wouldn't worry about any loops or anything, just hook it up like any other vacuum advance.
The econo group I belong to did. I guess they came that way from the factory. Prolly a safety feature. Apperantly, it comes off the carb is a u shape bend to the top of the aircleaner and then back down.
yes. the loop goes on top. it doesnt really matter where it is, but the line came like that from the factory. or you can make your own line and it will look alot cleaner.
Uh...Uh....And I thought the loop was for flex to turn the disty while setting the timing...."Gas" should never get into this vacuun line as there is no real flow, just almost totally static vacuum. (Me tinks that gas would just rot out the disty diaphragm....) Oh, yes....The line dosent go to the air cleaner. It goes to a carb ported vacuum source. (But what do I know, I'm a 56 yr. old FORD guy) LOL
