Anybody have some pics of some '57 chevies with '57 Buick grills? I am jonesin'... And- does the installation of said buick grill interfere with the hood latch on the chevy? If so- remedies?
WHile you're at it, get a 57 Pontiac hood and bolt it on. You will have to fill a few holes and flatten the raised emblem globe/vee in the front.
well....i get kinda lazy at times so i've been working on it for about the past 3 years....... it's not as easy as just bolting it in thats for sure! i had to do alot of t******* (taking it in and out of the car about a million times...) and it does interfere with the hood latch i just cut it (hood latch) and re-bent it to clear the grille. i'm at work so i'll try to post more pics of what i've done later tonite. matt
I had a 57 210 post with this grille in it when I purchased it ... and opening the hood was an embarasing pain in the ***. I had to shimmy a long screwdriver between the grille teeth to engage the latch. There's got to be a better way, but I sold the car before I ever got around to fixing it.
My '64 impala has a pull tab/rod under the bumper. I will have to get it out in the light and see if it would work on a '57.
I was gonna trim one of these down to put it in my 52,if anyone has any suggestions about how I should go about doing it let me know
Our old '57.... Install requires t******* the outermost teeth around the bumper ends (the dagmars, as it were).... I've seen some installed behind the bumperr, but IMO, it doesn't look as clean. An inside hood release is the key to your hood-opening foibles, and most can be tucked neatly under the dash to avoid clutter.... GM A-bodies from 68-72 work well, *** would any *gasp* late-model import unit....
I am not a big fan of the skinny gills. I found a nice 54 grill that is going in my 57 wagon. And ya like what FLP ya will have to trim the gills to give it a better look.
If you're just looking for ways to see what it looks like in a car, this swap was so popular back in the day that the original AMT 1/25th '57 Chevy 3-in-1 customizing kit comes with a '57 Buick grille option. I'm not sure how easy it is to find that kit now, though, I know they came out with an all-new '57 kit maybe 10 years ago and I'm not sure they made both at once.
Heres mine, just finished it. The gravel pan has to be trimmed to clear the bottom of the grill, the dagmars have to be trimmed, the top grill tie bar has to be "pancaked" so that the hood will close, and the ends of the grill have to be trimmed to fit the shape of the bumper. Then, all you have to do is fabricate new mounting points make some new tun signals to mount behind it. (DONT CUT THE TABS OFF OF THE ENDS OF THE GRILL, YOU NEED THESE!) Anybody that tells you these grills "fit" or "bolt in" is eithe lyning or has never done it before.
