Went to a new Wed Night cruise at the local Steak and Shake that a couple of friends had organized. Not a big turnout because the weather was overcast. About a half hour into the show, there's a very light drizzle. Shit, it wasn't even enough to get you wet. And this is Florida. If you can't drive in the rain, you probably ought to take up another hobby.

But as soon as it started, half the geezers popped out of their lawn chairs, packed up their time-out dolls, and headed home in a huff. Wussies..... Well, at least the DJ stuck around to play his shitty music.

On the plus side, my friends that put this on did a good job of putting together an honest 50-50, some neat door prizes, and working with the S&S manager. Kudos to them for the work they did.

a lot of people dont realize the time effort and money it takes to put on a show; even a small cruse.

then, a bit of crappy weather can really throw a wrench in it...

oh well, if they do it again, it'll be better.

I pissed off an old geezer (i use the term loosly as Im sure some fo you young hoodlems would call me one) at the last car show I was at. This guy right next to me had a new Musturd and was putting up the lawn chairs and cry baby dolls. I asked him where he was going in such a hurry. He pointed up in the air to a cloud that was coming. I said 'hell its got paint on it, its not gonna rust.' Didnt care any way cause if I wanted to go see a new car at a show I'd go to a 'Show Room' to see it.

What happens if you throw a party and no one shows up???

Your friends have to realize that lots of factors make up ANY car show...location, entry fee (free or ???), date, time, sun, moon, clouds or rain...the clientele of the location...

If it's a "cruise-in"...and it's free, then everyone and anyone is "free" to do as they please...and that means leave if they want. If there is no other reason to stay (door prizes? "Shitty" DJ?, 'attitude' from other participants towards us "geezers") then why the fuck should we stay and HELP YOU or your friends...???

If it's a "local" cruz nite and it starts to rain, doesn't matter if it's light or a downour, I really don't feel the need to stick around. I've got stuff I can be doing at home to get things done around the house. No use standing/sitting around in the rain.

Thats the problem with spending thousands of hours and/or dollars into a car. After spending all that to get it perfect many consider a few raindrops and alittle dirt imperfect.
I had one that I spent both hours and dollars on.
For the following 13 years I really tired of cleaning it.
I finally realized it was not having a beautiful vehicle and driving it that was fun. It was building it.....

  8. Kind of off subject but did you see my brother there? He is an old geezer(74) and drives one of those old Volkswiggler king cab pickups with a pair of surfboards on the top.

You got to remember there are some reasons for people leaving that are legitiment . Those that have a super nice car do not want to have to clean the underneath of road dirt and mud. Those that have no wipers don't want a ticket. Some don't want to get wet themselves. I usually stay myself but I do understand others reasoning.

Those geezers should move here to Charlotte, NC. We have not seen a drop of rain in 2 months. But on the other side, a water restriction is now in effect so they would not be able to wash and polish their cars....well unless they wanted the $180.00 fine for using water.

  14. Aren't we all free to be as comfortable as we want to be at a car show? Without the "geezers" we wouldn't have the appreciation we have for what we do. The geezers and the geezers dads bought these cars new. Get over your attitude and post something worth-while....

If it was actually raining, I could see the point. To be fair, there were at least two cars without wipers that I saw.

I guess I'm just a little tired of these local things where everyone shows up, sits in a chair, and listens to the endless doowop muzak.

  16. Fucking awesome, all ages..bikes...cars, bitchin....for us, the crowd can make/break the show more than the cars.

at what age does one become a geezer?

my previous 49 sedan had a big crack in the rear window rubber. when it rained my package tray and speakers got wet. then the door rubber was shot, so rain poured in from the rain gutter on to the front floor and carpet up front. add vacuum windshield wipers and a general dislike for rain and cold and unless the strippers were about to arrive I'd have been out of there also.

guess at 47 I am a geezer... and no where near as "hard core" as the guy who posted this.

I think you can become a "geezer" at any age. :) I myself am way over 50, but refuse to become one of the lawn chair crowd.

Maybe the its the old Airborne Ranger in me that keeps me from minding being a little damp....;) Hey, when it RAINS, its time to go inside. But a little drizzle? come on....some of you understand the what I mean...
You're absolutely right. I am whining and that ain't typical. Just venting, so thanks for bearing with me....

Don't see what the big deal is about rain. The parts of Florida that I go to it seems like it rains every afternoon for at least 5 minutes. I would think people would get use to it. Maybe they need to get an absorber or a water blade or an old terry towel.

The last three York Nats I have attended, it rained (or poured) at least one day out of the three. We drove in it to get there, parked in it, and rode home in it at the close of the day. Rainy days can be as good as sunny ones, unless someone crunches your fender and running board like a young lady did to my car two years ago. But she paid to make it right, so I'm not sore about it. Plus next time maybe she'll use her freaking mirrors. :D :D

Very well said, I find it hard to believe that every person who decided they didn't want to hang around in the rain was a so called "Geezer", but if that's the case, maybe your friends should put an age limit on their next cruise, or use those one way spike strips at the entrance so no one can leave till they say so.
I'm not one who is driven off by a little rain IF the cruise is worthwhile, I know it's a lot of work and money to do a cruise, but it is their job to make it entertaining enough for people to want to stay even if it does rain, and if someone wants to leave, it's their right to do so.
BTW, the reason that I do sometimes leave when it rains, is that I live in the country, and my driveway is about 1/4 mile long and gets really muddy when it rains, I hate trying to clean mud out from under my car, and off my wheels, basically, I hate cleaning my car, if I can avoid rain, I can avoid cleaning.

To most people who participate in this culture, it's just a hobby. No stress. Just recreational fun stuff.

The title of this post kinda turned me off. Who would want to participate in a cruize in or whatever when the promoters or freinds are quick to judge people when they leave because of rain.

Yeah I would probably be bummed that all my effort to put on a show was ruined because of weather but there is always next year if your primary focus is really to have fun + hotrods.

I know if I was one of those geezers and saw this post, there is a 100% chance I would not go again no matter where it is.

  30. Local cruise night, middle of the week, I've worked all day , starts to rain I'm going home. Car show, out of state , made reservations, I 'm staying, drove my car to syracuse this year pouring rain, no fenders ,and slicks. Still I guess I'm an old geezer. Carlg:D
