  1. what with the history behind the little red wagon? when did it get wrecked? it would appear that the owner is saving it for that "eventual" restoration?

All kidding aside, he actually hasn't been gone very long. As recently as maybe three or so years ago he used to be an occasional guest on a Sunday night radio talk show I listened to. Then in his 90s, you wouldn't have guessed it to listen to him. Not only was he still as sharp as a tack, he was extremely interesting speaking on any subject, as well as always exhibiting a viewpoint based in intelligence and common sense. In other words, unlike most other actors. I could have listened to him talk about anything for hours, he was that good. He was also very real, sincere, charming and witty. He was a good man.
Sorry for the slight thread derailment but I hope some will find it interesting.

  3. On a side note..how many Little Red Wagons were there?
Garlits has one in his Museum.
    Nice looking piece.

Last year some HAMBer (or the shop he worked at) was working on a Dragula clone for the auction that Barris did last year. There was a thread about it then. It went for $40K at the auction, so I ***uming this might be the same car given the price, OR it is another clone. But not the real deal.

I'm sure he owned it for a while- Caught an interview on it once.
He wrote the song AFTER he bought it.

A few years ago, I lived close to the Volo Auto museum and they were making an Elenore "CLONE". I had parted several Cougars and they called and wanted to know if I had a set of 67-68 Cougar Taillights. I told them $250 for a nice set. They said they wanted me to give them to them and they would give me free p***es into the museum. I told them "no". A couple months later they have a new Elenore there and they claimed it was real. Also they had a Batmobile there that was called a reproduction from the original molds, and then the next time I went there, the sign said "Original" from the show. Makes me wonder. It is a great place to go see some nice cars however.

Isn't that the racer that Grandpa built in the feature length Munsters Movie?
I think the movie had a big race that the Munsters had to win, or something like that.

My alltime favorite TV show, since I was a kid.
Bob Bain played the theme on his Telecaster with Bigsby tremolo.
He also recorded the Peter Gunn theme.
I got to see the actual original Telecaster up close at a Guitar Show many years back.

I heard Barris cobbled Dragula together in couple of weeks. The writers thought up the idea and he didn't have much time to execute it so I would expect too much uh... quality. Ever seen the Jokermobile that Harrah's used to have in it's collection? Anway, $49K is probably fair. It's a TV car.

The hardest thing about building it was buying the coffin - no one (back then) would sell him one when they heard what he wanted it for.

  13. That in itself's kinda funny

  14. Bill Golden wrecked a few of them, didn't he? I think this one is sitting on his property somewhere in Missouri.

    Or I'm completely wrong.

    ...found some more info:

Grandpa's car, Dragula, was first seen in the original film Munster Go Home and then became a (unfortunately rarely seen) supporting prop on the remaining year of the television show. The design of the car was basically a dragster (very hip int he 60s), done up in great style by George Barris.

The Munster Coach was the family vehicle, carrying the family on their trips. Where did they go? All the sames places any family would. But one of the funniest stories from the show was told after the show went off the air - the day the actors in dress took the car on a unplanned joyride around Los Angeles. No cameras, no publicity, and the studio didn't even know. The city just about shut down.

Some friends of mine who have worked as art directors and prop men in different films or TV commented that there are usually 3 versions of any specific vehicle created for a TV or movie, with varying degrees of quality and mobility , depending on what they are used for in the production. (like there are several versions of the Ghostbusters Ecto-1 '59 Caddy, and one was claimed by this museum as the original, I believe). Al Lewis was actually a pretty witty guy, and quite an expert on college basketball; He was a guest sometimes on a Syracuse radio station when I lived up there and he used to make some pretty accurate NCAA Tourney bracket predictions.

I believe the Dragula is hanging in the Hard Rock Cafe or Planet Holywood in Atlantic City NJ.

I just found the info at http://www.munsterkoach.com/Dragula1.htm It is indeed in Atlantic City at Planet Hollywood.

If you look close at the one hanging it has a square frame If you look at the build pics it had a round frame.

The original Dragula IS hanging from the roof of the Planet Hollywood in Atlantic City...its in its final guise from "Munster Go Home" the feature film...it has no engine, the top of the engine is mocked up(poorly) someone has made off with the dual scoop, and the car is in downright poor condition...there was an offer made several years ago, way more than what the car is worth in its present condition, was turned down...Keith Dean has built about 5 replicas of it, the last one I saw was EXTREMELY close to the original...other builders have put them together, with various levels of sucess...Rob Zombie used Keith Dean's replica Koach in the Dragula vid... Lots of pics at Munsterkoach.com....

Hey Guys Greetings from Long Branch,N.J.,Americas First Seashore Resort and 7 time U.S. Summer Capital....
Up until he was unable to do it anymore Al Lewis had a talk radio program on WBAI-FM 99.5 in New York City....his wife Karen now hosts the show on Saturdays on BAI.
I guess you could say Al was an intellegent knowledgeable man that supported many controversial programs from politics to unions to ideas on foreign policy.
He also had a restaurant in New York where he often dressed in costume to meet and greet his customers.
Yeah Yvonne De Carlo was hot....check out some her earlier movies....how about the two Marilyns?....saw Butch ''Eddie Munster'' Patrick at this years Lead East in Parsippany.

I spoke to Rob about owning it and he said he never owed it. He used it for photos and promo stuff. The car is not in the video just footage of it. The song is called dragula but he was driving a munsters coach.

Only ONE for the series and movie.....its the one hanging in the bar...MANY replicas....I think Keith Dean has done 5 or more, untold dozens of others by other builders.
