Snap-on Pick-up truck bed TARPS -- let's see 'em

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Detonator, Oct 5, 2007.

  1. I'm trying to figure out a canvas snap-on tarp for my '28 RPU. It also needs to have a cut-out for my fuel filler. Do these tarps follow the profile of the bed's tailgate -- it dips down from the level of the bed sides. Or do they stretch flat from side to side? Let's see some pix. Thanks.

I have seen both. Most look best with the snaps up underneath out of sight. I am wanting to build a solid cover with the edges that snap. That way it will appear to be a canvas cover but still be lockable.

  3. I agree about the snaps, I'd put them on the bottom side of the square channel on the bed sides. I'm also thinking the tarp would be cleanest if it stretched tight from bedside to bedside -- but what happens where the tailgate dips down? Does it get some kind of gusset?

How do you see your rigid cover attaching to the tailgate edge?

I plan to make a tonneau for my A this winter....a hard one that sets down level with the tailgate and hinges from the front of the bed.....covered in OD canvas.
A freind has a snap-on on his '34, the snaps are on the outer edge of the bedrails and the ends (tailgate, bed front) of the cover are a tad longer to snap...like flaps, as the corners are pie cut.

Yeah, you have to have a flap of sorts that will follow the bedrails down and snap to the tailgate. We used to have the rectangular snaps that turn and lock on the tailgate side because you are always opening those.

just had mine done last week, ran a plywood strip across the front and the trimmer added the alloy strip.the middle divider plywood bit has an arch in it to hold the cover up there.
the end snap at the back corner is on a little bit of elastic to allow the cover to bend down to the tailgate height.
    im pretty happy with it.

  15. Daisy -- Could you show us a close-up of one of the rear corners? And how the front attaches behind the cab? Thanks!
