Went to a vintage wood boat show today and fell in love with stuff I will never have! There are some great details on wooden boats you can use building hot rods.
great pics,,,i love the old wooden boats,,,,wish i knew a little more about them,,,ill have to read up on them,,,definitely some ideas there that would look great on a rod or kustom
larry thanks for joining us on the "wagon train" today.. we had a great time DRIVING out from philadelphia. the folks from the Philadelphia chapter of the antique and classic boat club were happy to have us!
We had a great time today .(my Dad is still complaining about the 6+hours of riding in my Merc ) Those old boats are amazing. They have a surprising ammount of automobile sourced parts on them.
Theres a bunch of cool steering wheels and some very cool windshield hardware on those boats; I have been eyeballing a windshield on an old boat in the local junk yard. thanks for reminding my with the post Larry.
Looks like this guy did just that! http://www.jockeyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14522&showall=1
If you like old wood boats go to the post office and buy some stamps. Now you can get them in "Old Wood Boats" they are cool.
SHhhhh....SUSH! SUUUUSSHHH! SHhhhhhh.....SHHHHHhhhhhhhh! Instead of primer and ragged rods we'll have freek'n mahogany and brass to deal with. SSSssshhhhhhh! -Bigchief.
Wood is good...Here's a neat 32 from Spokane. I've got a 54 Ford Ranchwagon and its so rusty I'm thinking wood for replacement.
Old boats rule. So simplistic in design but so much beauty.. Glad to see the wagon train turned out good
I love to look at them, but from what I hear, nothing will make your money dissappear quicker than working on wooden boats.
I also love wood boats. If you're ever in Lake Placid NY try to hitch a boat ride or rent a little boat to cruise the lake. Killer 2,3,and 4 boat garages. The doors are open alot of the time and each will have a couple old boats. I never really saw anything like it. Jeff
How about Birch hardwood fastened with Brass screws, dozens of coats of Spar Varnish and Chromed Silicon-Bronze?
Unilkely.....Larry already yelled at Clark and the others who tried starting the Jalopy Boat errr... amphibicar, eeerrr uhhhh races in the creek at the second Jalopy Showdown...and maybe the third one too. No more playing in the water. -Bigchief.
I used to run a chandlery that specialized in wooden boats, Canoe Cove Marina, in Sidney, B.C. It was situated in an old rum-runners cove and that's how the marina came to be. Lots of cool run-a-bouts, Chriscraft cruisers, Smokercraft and a couple ol' salts had authentic rum-runners from before the war. William Garden, the chief designer at Bayliner up until twenty years ago, still cranks out cool one-offs out of his shop, located on an island just of Canoe Cove. He in his early eighties now and still at it. One day...a tail-draggin' '40 Merc with a killer barrel back in tow.
I'm now a woodworker by trade 'after retirement' but rod's/metal are my real hobby. Wood is great but way less forgiving. Hate to have a carb fire under the Mahagony hood??
Some nice work in that roadster, but I can't help thinkin',a lot of Gibson SG's died to build it! Cheers,PJ
What happened to the post with the 40 handmade boat with the flathead engine in it that was posted yesterday? ..
