    Hey Guys,

    New thread, same thing.

I'll be using a Lincoln 368 Lincoln, 4sp toploader, original A frame..., and thats much pretty it. Anything else I have no idea.
I want a late 50s Rod.., not a post war.

What I want to do with my roadster is achieving a stance close yo this red roadster bellow on the pics.

Could anyone tell by staring at this pics how that stance was achieved ? someone might know the owner and the car..., what about frame, suspension, links, steering, etc

I want to use wider wheels and tires as well .., what sizes would be period correct for late 50s early 60s ?

    Thanks for your help
    Diego

Please, be patient...I am getting anxiety reading these two posts about your '29! Take a deep breath, you will get this figured out. If you send Wingnutz a private message, I am sure he will get back to you when he signs on. As for the stance, my old roadster had a similar profile...except not so low in the back. Looks like he used a Model A frame with a 4" dropped front axle with hairpins, channeled the car the width of the frame, and z'd(or stepped) it in the back with the spring behind(maybe, speculation.) Steering looks like cross-steer as there is no visible pitman arm or drag link.

I though hot rods sat down in the front, up in the rear?

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Not a big fan of the taildragger hot rod myself, but have seen quite a few from the late 50's and early 60's that were level or a little dipped in the back...

Ok, I think my best choice will be to gather all the pics from similar stance cars and ask how they were done.

hey mercjoe, jim sibley probably knows he built the car, he's on the hamb.

  17. Here's a good article on early custom wheels. He is also on the H.A.M.B. According to the article, the wheels like the one in the photo came out in '63. I'm not too sure what year the wider ones were available, maybe send him a P.M.?

P.S. Another vote AGAINST the tail-dragger stance.

Hi Richard, you forgot the link.
I want an even stance, slighlty lower in the front but not too much.
    just like the blue coupe

I'm an idiot. Funny quote-"Fenton wheels have as much prestige as a Spark-O-Matic shifter, and about as much class as your daughter's boyfriend."

P.S. The blue coupe has it nailed.

    Great info...
Any way, I think Im gonna get a set of standard reversed wheels.., beauty rings, repro Ford cups and that will do it.

I'll just use wider wheels..., lets say 15x7 for the rear at least.
I guess thats acceptable for a late 50s rod, isnt it ?

    Thanks Richard

jim built the blue coupe. i think his screen name is jimsibley as one word, check the members section an pm him. he is a good guy. i'm sure he'll give you some info on the build. good luck

  25. Sorry for the delay...been to busy driving the roadster...!

As for the stance it was achieved by a flat frame with a kick-up in the rear and then channeling the body the width of the frame.

Basically Bobbleed built a flat frame based on the stock set of rails... channelled the body.... mocked it up so that it had the right stance with the tires and wheel combo... and designed the rear kick-up to fit the Quickchange and triagulated 4-bar within the trunk confines!

It's a lot simpler than the double Z'd or Bleed Sweep frame and with a simple 4" dropped front axle I was able to stabilize the front end and get the stance I wanted using the adjustments on the Coil over mounts in the rear.

Bob offers an adjustable spring perch for traverse mounted springs that'l give you stance tuneability as well.

Contact Bobbleed for his chassis help and parts!

The frame is longer than a Stock Model A as well as the wheelbase... the main thing is to mock it up with the engine, wheels and tires until you get the proportions and the stance the way you like it.

p.s. I'm really "diggen" on that coupes pipes...!

    Good luck.

Do you remember how many inches were finally added to the lenght of the frame ? how much drop on the kick up ? did you use the spring over the axle ?

    Thanks !!!
    Diego

  27. I have no idea how much longer my frame is compared to "stock" but my radiator is mounted in front of the spring perch so that the radiator shell is at the right height with the front of the cowel (very important).

Don't forget to leave enough room for your waterpump, Fan, and some room to play around with the distributor.

Always build with the mindset that if something breaks (as they all do!) you can take it appart and repair it quickly without having to remove the whole body or other major components...!

A little thought before building will save a lot of heartache later.

Just 106" ??! it looks like it was extended 5" to 6" . Doesnt it ?

  30. It's 106" and accomondates the 455 Olds engine beautifully.

Mock your car up with jackstands wheels, tires and motor for the desired stance.

This should give you a pretty good Idea how you should lay out the rails.
